Ruben Amorim lifts lid on Sir Jim Ratcliffe crunch talks after nightmare Man Utd start

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim insists he retains the support of Old Trafford chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe despite a wretched start to the new Premier League season

Ruben Amorim claims he still has the support of Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe – despite the club’s worst start to a league campaign for 33 years.

United have four points from four Premier League games and sit 14th in the table, after an abject 3-0 defeat away to local rivals Manchester City in last weekend’s derby.

That defeat and United’s poor start to the season – they also went out of the EFL Cup to League Two Grimsby – has piled the pressure on Amorim ahead of three league games before the international break that could have a huge bearing on his future.

Ratcliffe visited Amorim at United’s training complex this week, with the 40-year-old head coach claiming the billionaire co-owner – who is in charge of football operations at Old Trafford – still backs him to turn the situation around.

Asked what the meeting was about, Amorim joked: “A new contract is on offer from him! No, it was a normal thing to show the support, explaining that its’ a long project, which he has said many ties

“I spoke with him, with Omar [Berrada, chief executive], with Jason [Wilcox, director of football]. I see all the data around the team, so it was just a normal meeting.

“This is the football club with maybe more pressure than any other in the world and we want to win. I think we are playing well until the boxes. Defending and attacking, we need to be more aggressive in the boxes, but we need to be be better.”

Ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Chelsea to Old Traffors, Amorim revealed Diogo Dalot remains sidelined, but Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, who missed the derby defeat, are both back training with the squad.

Amorim said: “Dalot is out, Mason is in the squad and Cunha is in the quad. Licha [Lisandro Martinez] is still out.”
