Early autumn is the ideal time for a day trip, and luckily, the UK is brimming with beautiful spots to explore. If you’re a fan of beautiful walks and stunning landscapes, followed by a cosy pub visit, there’s one village that should be on your radar.

Nestled in the Lake District, Troutbeck is a ‘unique’ village set in an ‘unspoilt’ valley, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Made up of a cluster of quaint hamlets, this location feels like it’s stepped out of a different time, according to travel experts at UK Hidden Gems.

Even better, there’s a well-loved pub tucked away amongst the hills, perfect for a pint or a bite to eat after your adventure.

Troutbeck provides a tranquil retreat where you can appreciate the surroundings off the beaten tourist track. Instead, expect lush green fields, charming cottages, and country lanes, all framed by the dramatic valley backdrop.

Lake Lovers describe Troutbeck as a ‘walker’s paradise’, boasting stunning routes that start right from your doorstep. Whether you’re climbing up to Wansfell Pike, discovering the Troutbeck Tongue, or simply strolling along the river, there’s something for everyone, reports the Express.

It’s just a short car journey from Ambleside, Bowness-on-Windermere, and the shores of Lake Windermere, with Ullswater and the central Lakes also nearby.

However, one of Troutbeck’s biggest attractions is its renowned pub, the Mortal Man.

Roaring fires crackle within this welcoming venue, providing exactly what visitors need after spending hours wandering and discovering the area in the crisp autumn weather.

The pub also takes pride in serving a range of local ales from Cumbrian breweries.

The menu features satisfying pub favourites, with Tripadvisor enthusiasts singing the praises of the Sunday roast and sandwich selection.

It doubles as a hotel, making it a great accommodation choice for those planning to stay in Troutbeck.

The venue has been hosting guests for numerous years and continues to enjoy huge popularity today.

The pub has racked up hundreds of five-star Tripadvisor reviews, with one delighted patron writing: “Lovely place, amazing food and friendly staff! Great menu choices even on a Sunday and fantastic desserts. Can’t wait to return one day!”

Another commented: “Beautiful pub, lovely people, amazing views. The food is superb and there’s lots of choice for gluten free. Exceptionally dog friendly. Much bigger on the inside that it looks. Can’t fault it at all.”

A third raved: “Best pub in the Lakes. Great food, fantastic beer, and very friendly and excellent staff. Love it here. I’m even moving on from just having pies!”
