Hidden gem in Spain where flights are just £17 and no tourists around

Spain is known as the most popular holiday hot spots for Brits, there is one hidden city nestled inbetween Alicante and Valencia that not many people know about

A hidden gem in Spain with cheap flights and quiet streets might just be your next getaway.

While Spain is one of the most popular travel destinations for good food, warm weather and easy travel, it’s no wonder the cities are flocked with tourists. However Dénia flies under the radar for many, and is a beautiful coastal city in Costa Blanca, between the mountains and sea in the province of Alicante.

What makes this destination special is that it’s unspoilt and there is less chance of overcrowding due to it not being as popular as other Spanish cities.

Located just an hour from Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, you can book flights for as little as £17 with Ryanair from London Stanstead airport.

Dénia, sits between Alicante and Valencia, and offers true Spanish culture that’s packed with ancient history including the Moorish castle, Castillo de Denia. Set on a 60-metre high mound and built in the 11th and 12th century, once you reach the top you will have magnificent panoramic views of the city and beaches all around.

Just a stone’s throw from the city, the Montgó Natural Park is the perfect playground for hikers and nature lovers. With its rosemary-scented paths and panoramic sea views, it’s almost like being in a postcard setting.

For the foodie lovers, Dénia has been classified as a ‘City of Gastronomy’ by UNESCO. Bustling with tapas bars and Spanish favourites, the city will always have something on offer for every visitor.

TripAdvisor has named Mistico as one of the best tapas bars in town, with guests calling it a ‘hidden gem’ in the heart of the city. Classic dishes like patatas bravas (€8, £6.86), ham and salmon croquettes (€9, £7.71 for six), and bread with alioli and tomato (€1.50, £1.29) are on the menu.

Another of Spain’s hidden spots is Logroño. It has been hailed by Time Out as Spain’s most underrated city and a hotspot for some of the continent’s best tapas.

This city is the capital of La Rioja, a renowned wine region nestled south of San Sebastian in the Basque country. One of the top activities here is indulging in the culinary delights offered by the array of restaurants lining Logroño’s quaint streets.

The city’s traditional architecture is a sight to behold, with ancient gateways and a stunning cathedral adding to its charm. In the old town, Plaza del Mercado is touted as one of the best spots to unwind with some food and drink.

History buffs will love Muralla del Revellín, once a walled city, where they can explore the remnants of medieval walls and an ancient archway that served as an entrance to the city.
