Jake Paul will take on Gervonta Davis in an exhibition bout in November despite weighing four stone more than the lightweight world champion
Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis’ exhibition fight WILL have a declared winner.
Paul, who has fought at heavyweight, will take on the lightweight world champion in Miami on November 14 despite weighing four stone more than his rival. The fight has already been moved from Georgia after the commission protested at the size difference between the fighters.
But Paul’s business partner Nakisa Bidarian revealed the fight will be scored by three judges if it goes the full 10 three-minute rounds. The two fighters will wear 12oz gloves and neither man can weigh more than 195lb at the weigh-in the day before the fight.
Asked later where his advantages lie in the fight, Paul said: “I would say a lot of things but first and foremost is going to be my reach and my size and just keeping him away. I think there are a lot of holes in his defence that a lot of people haven’t exposed before. He’s a great fighter – one of the best – and he’s forcing me to elevate myself to new heights.
“I’m more locked in than ever but I know at the end of the day I’m going to come in and out-box the guy who has been boxing for seven times as long as me. What I’ve done in the sport is unprecedented and will never be replicated. I’ve done it in such a short amount of time and I’m just getting warmed up.
“I’m just getting warmed up, but this fight will shut up more people. The last fight I had was the end of chapter one and this is the beginning of chapter two. When I beat this guy, more people will shut up; I’m just getting warmed up and I’m going to show how good I am. This is a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter I’m going to out-box.”
Asked why he is fighting Paul instead of rematching Lamont Roach following their draw earlier this year, Davis said: “I don’t want to put a lot out there but I’m doing what’s best for me and what’s right for me. I’ve been doing tis for a little minute now, since I was seven years old and this is the first camp i can enjoy myself.
“I think it’s going to be a great event. Every time I fight, it’s fireworks Jake Paul is coming in, he’s much bigger, much stronger, boxing wins come November 14. It’s not just me and Jake going to put on a fight, it’s a whole card, and we’re just giving boxing what it needs and that’s excitement.”
