Doctor recommends one fruit that provides ‘most vitamins we need on daily basis’

A nutritional expert has shared an in-depth look into the benefits of the fruit, also known as a vegetable, claiming it provides “most of the vitamins and minerals we need on a daily basis”

A nutrition expert has delved into the health benefits of what he dubs “nature’s solution” to combatting fatigue, thanks to its rich content of vitamins and minerals. Dr Blake Livingood, who boasts a vast following on TikTok, shared his insights on the advantages of cucumbers – which is technically a botanical fruit.

“They contain most of the vitamins and the minerals and the micronutrients that you need every single day all in one single vegetable,” he stated in his latest video. He pointed out that the B1, B2, and B3 vitamins found in cucumbers are not only energy enhancers but also support “lots of other processes” within the body.

He added: “Then we’re getting minerals including calcium, magnesium and phosphorus that most people are deficient in.”

The health expert remarked that while many energy drinks boast B vitamins and electrolytes for improved performance and vigour, they can’t match the wholesomeness of cucumbers.

“We’re also getting extra fibre, which is going to aid in weight loss and make us more full,” he noted.

Dr Livingood advocated for reaching for a cucumber when experiencing an energy slump later in the day, advising against energy drinks and caffeinated beverages at such times. “Ignore sodas, simply pick up a cucumber,” he concluded.

One TikTok user responded: “Cucumbers and hummus are my favourite lunch!”

They added: “I never understood why I enjoyed it so much until hearing this. I am low in B vitamins which would explain why I crave it.”

Another enquired: “So how many cucumbers do you need to eat to get your daily recommended dose of these nutrients because the percentages for one cup is pretty damn low?”

“We recommend 1/2-1 cucumber per day!” the doctor wrote in response.”

Regarding those questioning whether cucumber was a fruit or vegetable, Dr Livingood clarified it is, in fact, both. He responded to one sceptic: “Yes, botanically cucumbers are a fruit, and culinarily they are treated as vegetables!”.

“Do you have to eat the skin?” another of Dr Livingood’s followers wondered.

He answered: “We recommend keeping the skin on! You can peel it if you prefer, but it may not have the exact same nutrients listed in this video.”

Meanwhile, a third inquisitive TikTok user questioned the impact of pickling the plant, to which the doctor explained: “Pickling has great benefits! They will not maintain all of the exact same vitamins and minerals, but it will be similar!”.

Healthline backs Dr Livingood’s guidance, stating: “It’s high in beneficial nutrients, as well as certain plant compounds and antioxidants that may help treat and even prevent some conditions. Cucumbers are also low in calories and contain a good amount of water and soluble fibre, making them ideal for promoting hydration and aiding in weight loss.”
