Greater Manchester Police said a 62-year-old man has died following a serious collison on the M60 – and are urging for members of the public who may have information to come forward
A 62-year-old man has died after his car struck a central reservation on the M60 this morning, leaving him seriously injured.
Greater Manchester Police are now urging drivers who may have any information to come forward. The four-vehicle collision unfolded at around 5:35am on Thursday, between Junction 8 for Carrington and Junction 9 for Trafford Park. The man’s gold Renault reportedly ploughed into a central reservation before he was rushed to hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Police earlier said it is believed he could have suffered a medical episode.
A large stretch of the motorway was closed clockwise from junctions 6 at Sale to 9, with diversions in place and huge queues approaching the scene during rush hour. A stricken lorry was also pictured on the M60 after hitting the central reservation this morning.
National Highways warned drivers to expect long delays as the motorway was re-opened – and said motorists should allow extra time on their journeys. “This incident has now been resolved,” it said in an update. “The #M60 clockwise is in the process of being re-opened between J6 (#Sale) and J9 (#TraffordPark).
“The J6 entry slip road is now open so at this time traffic is just being diverted off and then back on again. Allow extra time.”
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “Officers are appealing for information following a fatal collision this morning (Thursday 25 September, at 5:35am) on the M60 motorway, clockwise between Junction 8 for Carrington and Junction 9 for Trafford Park.
“A single vehicle, described as a gold Renault, is believed to have entered the motorway at Junction 8 and then collided with the central reservation. The driver of this vehicle (62) has since sadly died from his injuries. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue their investigation and are asking for anyone with information to please come forward.
