Oasis paid a touching tribute to Ricky Hatton, who was found dead in his home two weeks ago

Oasis paid tribute to Ricky Hatton during their gig at Wembley on Saturday night. During what was their first UK concert since the passing of Hatton, 46, earlier this month, Oasis paid their respects to the boxing icon.

A photo of Hatton appeared on the big screen while the band were playing their iconic track Live Forever. After that, Wembley Stadium’s official social media page shared an image of Oasis’s tribute, along with the words: “For Ricky’ and a blue love heart.

Earlier on in the evening, Manchester-based artist Richard Ashcroft is thought to have dedicated Bittersweet Symphony to Hatton, who passed away on Sunday, September 14.

It comes after his children and family were present at the Etihad Stadium for tributes before Manchester City’s game against Burnley in the Premier League. Hatton’s son Campbell was seen fighting back the tears as a banner read: “The People’s Champion’.

The former boxing world champion was a huge Oasis fan and a close friend of Noel and Liam Gallagher, who carried his belts into the ring before his win over Pauli Malignaggi at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas 2008.

Hatton attended an Oasis gig in Dublin just weeks before he died, thanking Noel for the tickets afterwards. Indeed, Noel revealed last week that Hatton had been texting him not long before his death.

“We were texting each other last week,” he said on talkSPORT. “And I saw him at Heaton Park a couple of the nights, and he was on standard Ricky form. He was wisecracking with everyone, he was having a drink, he was great.

“We don’t know what has happened, but he did struggle with mental health, that’s widely known, and it just shows you that you never really know. It’s such a shame. He’s a great Mancunian.”

Noel described Ricky as a ‘lovely, lovely lad. “One of the lads. He was one of us,” he said. “It’s sad we’ll never see him at the Etihad again, but that’s life isn’t it,” he added.

Oasis played the 27th show of their comeback tour on Saturday night, and their penultimate in the UK. They will play once again at Wembley on Sunday before the tour moves on to Japan, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
