A boy, aged 13, from Louth, Lincolnshire, has been arrested after four separate incidents where a car, believed to be a Range Rover, hit people and didn’t stop on the same morning
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after four people were injured in a series of hit and runs on the same day.
A male cyclist was seriously injured after being knocked off his bike by a vehicle that did not stop in the first incident on Friday, September 26. He was taken to hospital following the collision on Priory Road in Boston, Lincolnshire, at 6.44am. Then at 8.20am, the force received reports that another male cyclist had knocked off his pushbike by a vehicle that did not stop in nearby Maltby Le Marsh in Alford.
Just 20 minutes later, another call was made to the police force reporting that an elderly man had been knocked over and the vehicle had nearly hit a small child, with the vehicle again leaving the scene on West Street, Alford. The elderly man suffered minor injuries.
And then in the fourth incident at 10.04am, another report was received after a vehicle on Bluestone Heath Road, Calceby, Alford, was said to have knocked a cyclist off his bike by a vehicle that did not stop.
Shortly after 10.23am the same day a 13-year-old boy was detained in the area of Hainton Road, Louth, and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, drive a motor vehicle otherwise that in accordance with a licence, using a vehicle on a road without third party insurance, and aggravated vehicle taking.
Lincolnshire Police says it is continuing to investigate the incident but it is believed that a black Range Rover may have been involved in each of these incidents.
The 13-year-old boy has now been released on bail. Investigating Officer Sgt Billy Spence earlier said: “I appreciate this is an unusual and, most likely, a worrying set of incidents for people who may been in the area at the time, and we are of course sending our best wishes and thoughts to those injured for a quick and full recovery.
“We have a young man in custody who is helping us with our enquiries, and we are keeping an open mind about the exact events of today, but we believe these incidents are linked.
“We do need the help of the public in order to make sure we have as much information and evidence as possible in order to carry out a thorough enquiry.
“If you have any dashcam footage, CCTV, witnesses, or any other information that could help and haven’t already spoken to us we would appreciate you getting in touch.
“I would also ask that the wider public do not speculate about what has happened here today and allow us to carry out our enquiries as fairly and freely as possible.” The force said investigating officers are working to establish the exact circumstances involved.
