Madeleine McCann suspect comes out of hiding to confront prosecutor who accused him

By staff30 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Christian Brueckner travelled for several hours in an attempt to speak with German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has tried to confront a prosecutor in Germany.

Christian Brueckner was seen trying to enter the offices of lawyer Hans Christian Wolters – who claims to have evidence he abducted and murdered the British tot.

Brueckner has maintained his innocence since Madeleine disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, back in 2007.

The convicted sex offender was freed from jail just two weeks ago after serving seven years for the rape of an elderly woman.

Speaking to Sky News outside the court, he said: “The prosecutor refused to meet me, but I told his representative I wanted his help to get my life back.

“I’m being hounded by the media, and it’s his fault. I want him to take responsibility.

“I was told there was nothing they could do to help. I had been convicted and released, and I wasn’t their responsibility.”

On September 17, the 49-year-old was driven from jail to a location in Germany where he is now living in local authority housing.

Brueckner’s main lawyer, Dr Fulscher, previously told Germany’s Stern magazine, Christian B’s main lawyer Dr Fulscher said: “The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office has fuelled this media campaign of prejudgment.

“It has told the public that it is certain it has the right person. Without presenting sufficient evidence or even allowing my client to inspect the files.

“I find this highly questionable from a constitutional point of view. In my opinion, the Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office has made rehabilitation impossible.”

Yesterday, images emerged of the dingy flat where Brueckner had been staying before he fled when his location was leaked on a local WhatsApp group.

The convicted sex offender fled the bolthole yesterday after the address was leaked on a local WhatsApp group. Angry locals shouted “scum” and “shame on you” as police led him from the ground floor flat.

Officers carried two carrier bags holding smirking Brueckner’s meagre possessions as he strolled with hands in pockets to a police car. Brueckner was released from prison on September 17 and spent just over a week in the sparsely furnished apartment.

Pictures show all he had was a single bed, a chair and a desk with a lamp. Other rooms in the flat were completely empty.
