Apple have launched the brand new iPhone 17 with the new iOS 26, but people are all complaining of one effect from the display that is making them ‘dizzy’ and ‘feeling drunk’
As the new iPhone 17 launches, those who have managed to get their hands on one have all said the same thing. Apple’s latest phone is said to be the most powerful yet, and has come with a new design too.
However the issue many people are finding is the new ‘liquid glass’ technology in the phone. Liquid Glass is a design language developed by Apple that they call a “delightful and elegant” new software design.
The design brings translucent, glass-like effects to app icons, the lock screen and the home screen, but many people say it makes them feel “dizzy” or “drunk” when looking at their phone.

The new iOS 26 feature is causing issues for users of the new phone as the app icons appear slanted. One user took to Reddit and said: “I hadn’t noticed it at the first glance, but now I can’t unsee the tilted app icons.” While another said: “This update is making me feel drunk.”
“All of iOS 26 is an optical nightmare. It’s horrible,” a third penned. Another man took to TikTok to share his frustration and said he “feels like a fish in an aquarium stuck in captivity every time I get a notification.” He then asked: “Why is it transparent and then everything behind it is blurry? I am nauseous, the room is spinning.”

However the app icons in iOS 26 are not actually tilted, but an unintended optical illusion makes them appear so, which is what people are reportedly seeing. The illusion is being caused by subtle glowing effects added by Apple designers to the top left and lower right corners of the icons.
Liquid Glass is named as the idea is that each window on a phone is like a pane of glass, see-through and somewhat reflective. It gives the screen a sleeker look.
But tech savvy fans reckon this visual overhaul gives a glimpse into what might be coming in Apple’s rumoured AR glasses, which will reportedly debut next year. According to experts at Tech Crunch, they think Apple are getting people ready for a world of augmented reality smart glasses.
Users are connecting Liquid Glass to potential AR glasses because the new design draws strong inspiration from that of Apple’s Vision Pro VR headset.
But at the moment, virtual reality isn’t really something we use in our daily lives, but the experts at Tech Crunch predict the design of the new iOS is in line with the launch of the new Vision Pro glasses, so that those who then wear them won’t be as disorientated.
However it can feel unnatural to be so immersed in virtual reality for an extended period of time, so Apple took advantage of these new mixed reality capabilities by overlaying windows atop a user’s real-world surroundings, rather than a synthetic background.
iPhone 17 starts at £799/$799 and gets to £1,199/$1,199 for the ‘Pro Max’ version, although this figure reaches even higher if you want more device storage.
