The Cotswolds are known for being filled with historic and picturesque locations – whether it’s old villages, certain quirky shops, or cosy cafes and pubs. However, one woman now claims to have found the best ever scones in a lesser-known tea room within a popular town.

Stow-on-the-Wold is a charming market town that’s famous for being the domain of many a celebrity resident – and it’s brimming with family fun and a magical history. But what you might not know is that it also has some great spots for food. One visitor named Kat found this out when she visited recently – and she’s now urging people to head to a lesser-known tea room hidden in the middle of the Cotswolds town.

Taking to TikTok, Kat went on to share her experience of having enjoyed tea and scones at The Old Bakery Tearoom, which she claimed often gets overlooked by ‘more Instagrammable’ tearooms and cafes in the area.

She said: “Everyone’s always chasing those Instagram perfect tearooms in the Cotswolds… but let me tell you a real hidden gem you’d never find unless you knew where to look.”

Located in picturesque town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Kat went on to explain that hiding behind a little passage is the location for The Old Bakery Tearoom. She claims it is the cosiest spot – with a kind owner named Alan who is running it.

“He welcomed us in like old friends and honestly made us feel at home straight away,” Kat wrote.

As they got to their table, they were soon served cups of tea and warm scones with clotted cream and jam, which Kat quickly went on to praise.

“And these scones… no exaggeration – the best we’ve ever had,” she revealed. “Fresh out the oven, still warm, soft inside, perfectly crumply on the outside.”

She went on to write in the caption of her video: “If you’re in the Cotswolds, skip the touristy spots. The Old Bakery Tearoom in Stow is the real deal. Alan makes you feel at home, and the scones… unforgettable.”

The tearoom in question has an impressive 4.9 star rating – with people often raving about the delicious food and warm welcome they got when visiting. And they’re not alone.

Viewers of Kat’s video soon took to the comments – and many agreed that Alan is serving some of the best scones around.

One wrote: “Been there a few times, it really is a delight food is lovely and you are right the owner is such a nice man.”

Another person went on to say: “I honestly believe shops like this can be much better than the ‘social media famous’ ones.”

And a third added: “I love finding little unpretentious gems like this that have the BEST scones you never forget.”
