The Mirror’s iconic party at the close of Labour conference last night saw Cabinet ministers, MPs, political staff and journalists let down their hair after a busy few days in Liverpool.
The event got off to a poignant start as Justice minister Alex Davies-Jones sang a powerful rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone while accompanied by Hillsborough campaigners.
Margaret Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James was among the victims of the 1989 tragedy, gave a powerful speech calling for a new law – which will prevent cover-ups – to be passed quickly without being watered down.
As karaoke kicked off later, Cabinet members Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy gave a lively rendition of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back in Anger. Mr Streeting also enthusiastically took the microphone to sing Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.
