Professional writer Rosana Mabel Back, 52, did a jump from her regular local centre when her parachute is alleged to have failed to open – an investigation into her death has been launched

A 52-year-old skydiver plunged to her death after a “faulty” parachute fails to open during solo jump.

Rosana Mabel Back, 52, did a jump from her regular local centre south of Buenos Aires, in Argentina, when the incident unfolded. The therapist and professional writer was using different equipment than those she was typically used to.

Tragically, Rosana’s parachute reportedly failed to open after she jumped from a plane and fell to her death on Miramar, about 200 miles south of Buenos Aires, on Sunday. Her club sent their condolences following the tragedy.

“Aero Club Miramar deeply regrets the tragic accident that occurred near the aerodrome, in which a skydiver lost her life,” the statement read. “We are providing support to her family, loved ones, and colleagues in this difficult time.”

The club added: “It is important to note that the Miramar Aero Club has no connection with the skydiving activity that takes place within the provincial premises of the Miramar airport. We reiterate our sorrow for what has happened and accompany the aero nautical and sports community at this time of sorrow.”

The Argentine Writer’s Society went on to praise Rosana in a tribute, reported The Sun. “We regret to announce the death of our member Rosana Mabel Back in an accident that occurred yesterday in the city of Miramar,” a spokesperson said.

“It was a tragic incident that took our dealer colleague. We are left with memories of sharing her friendship and that warm laugh that best characterised her. We send our condolences to her family.”

An autopsy has been ordered and experts are expected to carry out a review of the equipment she used amid concerns it could have been faulty aspects to it. An investigation into her death is ongoing.

The incident comes after eight skydivers leapt from a plane just seconds before it crashed, killing the pilot. Paul Smith, 54, died after the skydiving plane he was pilotong crashed in New South Wales, Australia.

The eight skydivers safely jumped from the plane at about 14,000 feet just two minutes before it crashed in the coastal town of Moruya, NSW Police Inspector Justin Marks told reporters.

“The aircraft has come to rest in thick bushland adjacent to George Bass Drive, while the wing has come to a rest on George Bass Drive itself,” he said.
