I tried mushroom coffee and it transformed my mornings – I never get the shakes

On International Coffee Day this up and coming wellness brand provides all you need in one sip. With three rich products, Every state promises to battle against brain fog and tiredness

Many Brits may not be aware of the holiday that celebrates a drink we hold (quite literally) close to our hearts.

International Coffee Day is celebrated today (October 1), and this year I tried an independent brand in an effort to become healthier, more awake and reduce the notorious coffee-jitters. Co-founded by Ellie Goulding, Everystate says: “Wellness should belong to everyone, this is about giving people something real that actually fits into their everyday rhythm”.

Co-owner Gemma Feare said that their brand was built on the foundation of diversity, wellness and sustainability. Female-led, the well-thought out packaging is simple and recyclable, a product of their mission to give back to the planet.

Everystate’s expert, nutrigeneticist and biologist, Christina Mamada, specialises in “evidence-based, holistic nutrition, with an MSc in Human Nutrition from King’s College London and over a decade of experience”. Her formulas “draws on her expertise in adaptogens, nutrigenomics and functional ingredients to create products that are both effective and aligned with modern health needs,” says the brand.

Their Arabica coffee has accompanied me most mornings, easily transported in their sample sachets, and after a month of testing, well worth the money. The rich flavour is an enjoyable blend with “deep roasted notes,” as described by Everystate’s website, that can be enjoyed throughout the day. Made of 100 per cent Arabica Coffee, the slight bitterness makes a quality brew, with or without milk.

The product contains a multitude of health benefits. Including Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps in each serving, the product is a blend made to encourage mental clarity, endurance and stamina. And that’s not all — the coffee also contains seaweed kelp, maca root and Vitamin B, said to alleviate tiredness and fatigue, build resilience and claims to fuel the drinker’s energy metabolism.

When I first heard of this magical, all-inclusive blend, it seemed too good to be true. Being neurodivergent, I usually found drinking coffee (of which I consume like a Gilmore Girl) to add to my sleepiness in the mornings, and keep me wide awake at night.

Perhaps due to my anxiety and the fast-pace of London living, I never felt like my dark brew dependency was healthy in any way. Drinking coffee felt like a bad habit that I knew would bite me, that I would regret, despite being unable to resist the temptation.

Everystate has provided me a genuine solution. Lacking the usual side effects of overstimulation and jitters, I can begin my day with my favourite drink that warms the soul and gently wakes my mind, a great addition for the Autumnal period. With a monthly subscription service, say goodbye to daily city costs that break the bank, and welcome the chance to save as you improve your concentration.

A one-off subscription costs £45 — and though this may initially alarm customers, this works out to more than three times less the usual café price. At just £1.29 per cup, customers have commented on just how far the product stretches.

One reviewer wrote: “Feels nourishing. Not just caffeine, feels like I’m supporting my body,” whilst another added: “It 100% helped with my energy and focus & I got a lot of my writing done in the morning after a cup of it”. With the repeated subscription, it gets even better! Starting from £36, the Arabica coffee will arrive to your door, with free delivery and a Everystate whisk worth £25, completing your coffee station by frothing up milk to your hearts content.

Check out their Matcha and Cacao products too — the same offer applies. The Cacao blend promises a healthy hot chocolate, making dreams of cosy October nights-in come true. Made with Reishi + Tremella, the smooth chocolate is a treat designed to support drinkers as they unwind, working to restore balance “without the sugar spikes, restlessness or overwhelm”.

Breaking down the ingredients, Every State adds that cacao is a rich antioxidant full of theobromine which protects our mood and energy levels.

The Reishi mushroom induces a calmness within the drinker, the Tremella adding a hydrating element that reportedly boosts radiance. Packed with nutrients: magnesium, zinc, vitamin B6, vitamin C and lemon balm, regular drinkers are left with a calmed nervous system, an increase of immunity, low levels of fatigue, and nourished skin. What’s not to love.
