Machete thug hacks man in pub in front of horrified punters

The attack at Bells Bar, in Glasgow, left the victim of a machete attack with serious injuries and needing emergency treatment at a city hospital – police have launched an investigation

20:43, 01 Oct 2025Updated 20:44, 01 Oct 2025

A machete-wielding thug brutally hacked a man in a pub as horrified punters looked on in horror.

The harrowing attack happened at Bells Bar, in Springburn, Glasgow, on Friday as punters enjoyed pints at the end of the working week. The attacker, wearing a hat and grey hoodie, was seen on CCTV as he entered the boozer and pushed trough punters singing karaoke.

In footage, he was seen making his way over to a table before he produced a footlong blade from behind his back. He then landed a violent blow at a 39-year-old man who was sat at a table.

The attacked then meted out a flurry of blows down on his victim during the frenzied attack. Blood was seen splattering across the walls above the table as the victim tried to shield his face from the blade.

The man was then seen jumping into a seating area in a bid to escape from his attacker. A man and woman standing close to the knifeman threw their hands in the air as the attacker fled with the blade in hand.

The attack appeared to go unnoticed by many pub goers who continued to hug and sing to John Denver’s 1971 hit Take Me Home, Country Roads. One punter, seen filmed the singing, captured the moment people noticed the bleeding victim slumped at the table, reports the Daily Record.

Police were alerted soon after and the victim was taken to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary. He remains in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

A witness told the Record: “It’s absolutely horrific and shocking. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a nice wee night out with some karaoke in a quiet local pub and the next thing a machete maniac is storming in and hacking at a guy having a pint.

“The sound the machete making contact is horrific. I couldn’t believe my ears. It just shows the force of the blows he was raining down. It’s worrying that he’s not been caught yet and hopefully the police get him soon.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11pm on Friday, 26 September, 2025, we were called to a report of a man being seriously assaulted within licensed premises on Springburn Way, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and a 39-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious injuries. Extensive enquiries are ongoing and officers remain in the area.”

The statement added: “Anyone with any concerns or information can speak to them, or call 101 quoting incident 4197 of Friday, 26 September.”

The Mirror has contacted Police Scotland for comment.
