Ryder Cup star’s dad forces Sky Sports into apology after F-bomb live on-air

By staff3 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Ryder Cup stars from Team Europe are already back in action in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, including the reigning champion Tyrrell Hatton

Tyrrell Hatton’s dad, Jeff, forced Sky Sports commentators to apologise after overhearing an f-bomb from his father during their coverage of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews. Hatton Snr partnered with his son for the second straight year in the team championship after coming second 12 months ago.

Days after winning the Ryder Cup for Team Europe, Hatton is back in the United Kingdom to defend the title he won last year. The Englishman is a three-time winner, having won consecutive tournaments in 2016 and 2017, before achieving his third success last year.

Hatton set the tournament record score in the first of those before equalling it again last year. His father, however, had a moment to forget on the opening round of this year’s competition.

A hole after contributing to their team score with an eagle on the par-three seventh, Jeff, in his own words, “farted” his tee shot on the eighth right into the rough. “F***”, he exclaimed afterwards before following that up by saying sorry.

A swift apology soon followed on Sky Sports after their on-course microphones picked up the expletive. It was the second time they had said sorry in a matter of minutes after Hatton’s Ryder Cup teammate, Robert MacIntyre, dropped an f-bomb after finding the rough with his tee shot on the ninth.

Hatton Jnr is infamous for letting out the odd obscenity, and like son, like father, Jeff appears similarly foul-mouthed out on the course. Sky Sports caught up with the LIV Golf player soon after, but did not mention his father’s faux pas.

Asked what the last week has been like since winning the Ryder Cup for Europe, Hatton said: “Well, this certainly brings you back to reality real quick! Last week was an incredible experience and amazing to be a part of the team, and to win an away Ryder Cup was what we all dreamed of, so, yeah, very special.

Hatton continued: “I didn’t drink too much, so I was actually in a good headspace Monday morning, which is a good thing because I was then flying Monday night here; no one wants to travel hungover.” Talk then turned to his father being at Bethpage.

“He was on the back of the 18th green, so all my family were there, my mum, my sister, Emily – my wife. It was cool to see them; just amazing.”

Hatton also spoke about his father in a separate interview. “Last year, it was the first time I had actually won a tournament with my dad here,” he said. “So that was really special, and he had a front row seat, which is pretty cool.

“He’s been my coach since I was basically ten years old. So we’ve achieved a lot together, and that’s really special.”
