Mother Pelin Yasot Kiyga died a horrific death after she entered a lift and it plunged seven floors to the ground. Her heartbroken husband desperately tried free her before the tragedy

A mother tragically plummeted seven storeys to her death after her apartment lift crashed.

Pelin Yasot Kiyga was heading to work as she entered the elevator on September 30. However, the lift suddenly became stuck and then crashed to the bottom floor with the concrete counter weights. Her husband, Gokhan Kiyga, 34, desperately tried to save her, with CCTV showing him attempting to open the lift doors.

He tried to call for help on his phone and had injured his foot while trying to prise open the doors. Sadly, he was unable to free his wife during the incident at their apartment block in the Altaylilar neighbourhood of Tarsus, Turkey.

CCTV footage also shows him holding his head in his hands and then running downstairs as he realises what has happened. Emergency teams including paramedics and police rushed to the scene after being notified.

Pelin, who was injured in the fall, was taken by ambulance to the district state hospital but her injuries were to severe and she was later declared dead. The young mother from Mersin leaves behind one child.

Pictures released after the freak accident showed the lift doors were broken. Emergency tape was placed outside of the elevator as the crime scene was secured. Police said 17 people have been interviewed and they have arrested three people, including the former company manager responsible for the lift, the current manager, and the site manager.

Residents are said to have previously shared their concerns about the lift. They reportedly posted in the building’s WhatsApp group that the lift had been malfunctioning for over a month before the crash. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
