‘I tried garlic bread from all UK retailers and one supermarket is clear winner’

By staff3 October 2025No Comments5 Mins Read

A trusted food reviewer has put 30 garlic breads to the test and shared her top 10 choices as the supermarkets are filled with endless options of the buttery, golden treat

Whether it is to accompany your pasta dishes at home, as a treat at a party, or as an evening treat, garlic bread is always a popular snack choice. The delicious bread is hard to resist thanks to its buttery, golden and unapologetic strong scent. But, if you head to the supermarket to pick one out to enjoy at home, you’ll find a sea of options from different brands. Who really does it the best?

A viral and trusted food reviewer, Becca, has put 30 different garlic breads to the test to determine which is the best on the market. To narrow things down, the reviewer known as Becca Eats Everything, share her top 10 garlic breads from supermarkets and popular brands.

Lower garlic bread rankings

10th place – Cook Kitchen

In 10th place, Becca put the Cook Kitchen Garlic Ciabatta bread, which she paid £3.50 for. She noted that this garlic bread is different to ones we are typically used to; it is a ciabatta with garlic cloves inside of it instead of a garlic butter spread onto it.

Becca said: “By definition it is a garlic bread.” Tucking in, she added: “It’s a nice ciabatta, it does taste homemade, there’s a lot of olive oil flavour running through it which I really liked, nice and salted. I’m not getting a huge amount of garlic flavour though.”

She offered it a rating of 5/10.

9th place – Iceland

In 9th place out of 30, Becca put the Iceland Stonebaked Garlic and Cheese Pizza. This garlic bread is a bargain, coming in at £1.50. After warming up the treat in the oven, Becca said: “Now that’s a good looking garlic and cheese pizza bread.”

Taking a bite, she added: “That’s not bad, the bread is quite sweet, unusually. The cheese is alright, nice, there’s some red Leicester in there which gives it a little bit more of a salt flavour. The garlic is very subtle – I would like that to be stronger.”

Becca offered this a 6/10 rating.

8th place – M&S

In 8th place, Becca puts the M&S Stonebaked Garlic Butter and Cheese Flatbread for £1.50. M&S describes it as a “slowly fermented dough, with garlic butter, mozzarella, mature cheddar and sprinkle of parsley.

Becca said: “The cheese reminds me of that of a cheese Ritz cracker or of a Tuc biscuit. It’s quite nice…but there’s no garlic. If you’re looking for a garlic bread you’re going to be disappointed, but the cheese is quite tangy, it’s quite nice.”

She offered M&S’ garlic bread a 6/10 rating.

7th place – Sainsbury’s

Coming in at 7th place is a bargain garlic bread baguette, from Sainsbury’s, priced at 50p. Becca said: “It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. There’s more of a vinegar flavour than there is of garlic. Both are very subtle. There is a little bit of parsley flavour but again it’s very subtle. “

Becca said this is a good choice if you are looking for something to dip into pasta or give to kids. She also offered this treat a 6/10.

6th place – Tesco

In 6th place is the Tesco finest Caramelised Garlic and Olive Oil Flatbread. This product is priced at £3.10 and gets a 6.5/10.

Becca said: “You can taste the garlic on this and it is definitely is caramelised. I’m not sure if I really like it that much. I think it sounds nicer than it actually is. I can taste parsley on there, the bread is very rich with oils, so while it is lovely and soft, you can tell it’s a little bit on the greasy side.”

5th place – Waitrose

Coming in at number five on Becca’s list is the Waitrose Essential Garlic Baguette. After tucking into the treat, she said: “I like the strong garlic flavour that’s there. It’s also really buttery. The bread could be better quality, but I quite like this.” She offered Waitrose’s garlic bread a 7.5/10.

4th place – Tesco

In 4th place and priced at just £1 is the Tesco Garlic Baguette. Becca said: “That’s a really nice, soft baguette with good flavours of garlic, it’s really buttery. My only complaint is that the garlic could be a bit stronger, but there’s of filling in this. This is fantastic.”

3rd place – Aldi

3rd prize goes to Aldi Essentials Garlic Baguettes – two per packet – for 70p. Becca said: “For an essentials garlic bread, that is pretty good. Although the bread could be better, it is very soft, there’s a nice crunch around the outside, there’s parsley, it’s very buttery.”

She offered Aldi’s garlic baguette a 8.5/10.

2nd place – Sainsbury’s

In the runner up position in this review is a Sainsbury’s bread – Garlic Baguette for £1. Becca said: “There is a nice amount of garlic on this. It is the main flavour, it is strong, the bread is really nice.”

“I’d be very happy if I brought that home for dinner,” she concluded.

The winner

Landing the top spot, which is “well and truly deserved”, is White Rabbit’s Mozzarella and Roasted Garlic Flatbread for £3.50 – and it’s gluten free.

Becca said: “This is a fantastic product. Very nice. Such a lovely garlic flavour. It’s roasted, it’s giving off like a garlic oil. Cheese is really good. This is a fantastic product.”

She insisted this garlic bread deserves a 9/10.
