Swifties simply can’t get enough of Taylor Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl, with statistics showing just how successful her 12-track offering is after its opening day
Taylor Swift fans were eagerly awaiting the pop sensation’s 12th studio album – and the stats prove exactly how popular it has been. The 35-year-old singer released The Life Of A Showgirl on Friday, October 3, and Swifties across the globe couldn’t get enough of it.
Some fans labelled the 12-track offering her best yet, while others quickly speculated the meaning of the songs. And now, statistics have shown just how big a success the album has already been.
However, despite so many record-breaking moments, the new album failed to become the most-streamed album of all time on its opening day. Instead, Taylor’s previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, keeps hold of the accolade.
According to Chart Data, Taylor’s latest offering earned the biggest streaming day for any artist on Spotify in 2025. In total, the star’s album was streamed 309 million times across the catalogue on day one of its release.
It became the second biggest day ever of any stream album; the only album that achieved more, according to the site, was her 2024 release, which was streamed 380 million times on its first day.
Out of all her new tracks, the site states that The Fate of Ophelia became the most-streamed debut tune in global Spotify chart history. And it also revealed that the least-streamed track on The Life Of A Showgirl on its opening day was Honey.
But, fear not, Swifties. This doesn’t mean it wasn’t well received. In fact, the site states it still outstreams any debut tune by anyone not named Taylor Swift on Spotify. The closest competitor is reportedly Seven by JungKook, with TayTay’s tune being streamed a mere 87 more times.
One tune that has been picked apart more than others in her new offering is Actually Romantic. In the track, Taylor sings: “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave.”
She later added: “High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me/ Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face/ Some people might be offended/ But it’s actually sweet.”
And fans were quick to speculate if it was a diss track towards Charli XCX. Some questioned if it was a rebuttal to Charli’s Sympathy Is A Knife tune from her Brat album.
But now, in an audio track-by-track breakdown of the new album for Amazon Music, Taylor claimed this isn’t the case. Instead, she said her new tune is “a song about realising that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about”.
She added: “And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea. It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you or having a problem with you but you take that and just accept it as love and you accept it as attention and affection, and how flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this.”
As well as her album, Taylor released a new movie too. The film of the same title was shown for one week only and the special screenings included the world premiere of the music video The Fate of Ophelia, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the music video shoot.
