Everton poke fun at England and Thomas Tuchel after last-gasp Jack Grealish winner

By staff5 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Jack Grealish was overlooked by England boss Thomas Tuchel for the Three Lions’ games against Wales and Latvia but scored a stoppage-time winner for Everton against Crystal Palace

Everton couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Jack Grealish’s England omission after the on-loan ace netted his first goal for the Toffees in a thrilling victory over Crystal Palace.

Grealish found the back of the net three minutes into added time, securing a win against the previously undefeated Eagles who had taken an early lead at Hill Dickinson Stadium thanks to Daniel Munoz’s first-half strike.

The Toffees fought back valiantly, with Iliman Ndiaye equalising from the spot before Grealish – encouraged by manager David Moyes to take more shots – delivered the decisive blow, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Despite widespread anticipation of Grealish’s return to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Wales and Latvia, he was unexpectedly left out, alongside Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.

In a playful response to the snub following their victory over Palace, Everton cheekily updated their X account bio to ‘Grealish for England’, much to the amusement of their fans, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Palace had previously been updating their own bio on a game-by-game basis as their unbeaten run stretched to 19 games before it came crashing down on Merseyside.

Reflecting on his match-winning performance, Grealish said: “It’s brilliant. It’s so nice to score here. Do you know what’s mad? The last games we’ve played here we’ve been drawing and I keep saying to myself in the 85th minute, ‘Come on Jack, go and score. Imagine if you scored now’.

“I did it against Villa, I did it against West Ham and I didn’t score, so today I actually said the same thing again and I scored and I ran to where my mum and dad were, so it was nice. That goal goes to all the Evertonians for making me feel so welcome here.

“That’s what you want to do as a winger, I have one goal and four assists that’s what I want to do. It was difficult to do that today against such a good team. They have some unbelievable players. I think Adam Wharton today, I can see the Man of the Match award there, I think it’s coming to me but I think it should go to Adam Wharton because, in my opinion, he was the best player on the pitch today.”
