Shoe chain launches closing down sale as popular store to close in days

By staff10 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Shoppers have been expressing their disappointment on social media, with one person saying: ‘Another one bites the dust’

Schuh is set to close one of its branches later this month – and has launched a closing down sale to clear stock.

The shoe chain will shut its store in the Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, on October 18.

Bucks Free Press reports that a notice has been put up in the shop window, explaining that the next nearest Schuh stores are in Reading, Watford and Oxford.

Shoppers have been expressing their disappointment on social media, with one person saying: “Oh nooo. Not Schuh.” Another commented: “Another one bites the dust.”

A third person posted: “Oh no staff always really helpful as well.” Another shopper said: “Such a shame we are losing all our great shops, probably still be available online but not the same as physically shopping in-store.”

Schuh was established in 1981 by Sandy Alexander with its first store was located in the North Bridge Arcade in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Fast forward to today, and Schuh stocks products from over 80 brands, including Nike, Adidas, UGG and Converse. It comes after Cancer Research revealed a full list of 88 stores closing by May 2026.

The charity has confirmed that towns and cities including Birmingham, Derby and Glasgow will all affected by the changes. A further 100 stores will shut by April 2027.

Cancer Research estimates it will have around 320 shops left over the next two years. However, the charity says it will expand its network of out-of-town superstores, with 12 new stores set to open.

Meanwhile, Poundland has closed dozens of stores in recent weeks due to a major restructure of its business, after the struggling retailer was sold for just £1 to an investment firm.

The budget high street chain had 800 branches earlier this summer, but now expects this will reduce to around 650 to 700 stores through mixture of closures, as well as when leases expire.

Poundland has also updated its website so that shoppers can only browse products – you won’t be able to buy anything online.

The retailer has also closed its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, which allowed shoppers to earn points when they spend. If you have vouchers that you’ve yet to spend, you’ll still be able to use these up until January 15, 2026.

Bodycare closed all its stores last month after the struggling beauty chain collapsed into administration earlier this month. At the time, Bodycare announced it would immediately shut 32 stores, then just days later, the retailer confirmed another 30 stores would close permanently.

It later announced that its remaining 56 stores will close for good. Bodycare had hired advisors at Interpath to handle its administration process but it has been unable to find a buyer for its stores.
