Chef Kelly Scott has been praised after sharing how she makes the perfect poached eggs every single time – as people admit they’ve been struggling with the right technique for years
Whilst cooking poached eggs comes naturally to some, others find themselves battling through the entire process only to end up with a fluffy disaster on their plate. Chef Kelly Scott, known as @kellyscleankitchen on social media, has turned to TikTok to reveal how she creates flawless poached eggs every single time.
In a brief 42-second clip, she walks viewers through the method needed to serve up an exceptional breakfast each morning – without fretting about producing “fluffy eggs”. She explained: “I used to have to poach hundreds of eggs for breakfast service and this is a foolproof way to make the perfect poached egg.
“Crack an egg into a fine strainer. This allows the loose whites to go through and the firm to stay, making it more uniform.”
Next, she transfers her cracked eggs into a ramekin and ensures her water reaches approximately 180C – or is “barely bubbling” – before carefully swirling the water and gently dropping her egg into the centre.
Following this, she swirls the water once more before turning the egg upside down as soon as the white begins to set.
She continued: “Leave it for two to three minutes and check by gently pressing on the yolk. The yolk should jiggle, but the whites are set.
“Put it on a paper towel and then serve. You can do this with multiple eggs at once and it still works.”
Responding to her clip, one viewer commented: “Used your technique tonight and my poached eggs were perfect.”
Another user chimed in: “I have tried countless times to poach an egg. Failed. Every. Time. I’m so excited to try this method. Eggs? Cold or room temperature?”.
A third user shared: “They do look perfect but what I do is I put an egg yolk in a ramekin with water and microwave it for 28 seconds perfect.”
Yet another user added: “My DIY way: put cling film over a mug, add a splash of oil, crack egg in, wrap up, put in boiling water for 4 mins. Eggsellent result every time.”
One more user said: “This inspired me to make poached eggs as soon as I saw it. I’ve literally never made them myself before and it actually worked really well!”.
A final user confessed: “Eggs are the hardest thing in the world for me to cook so I’ll try this.”
