‘I tried one of UK’s most expensive fish and chips and was baffled by one thing’

By staff12 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

A food reviewer decided to try out one of the most expensive fish and chips in the UK, and has shared his thoughts online. There was one thing in particular that raised his eyebrows

A food reviewer has sampled what is being labelled as one of the most expensive fish and chips in the UK, and was especially baffled by one thing when he was served the dish. TV chef Tom Kerridge regularly makes headlines for the price of his battered fish and chips at Kerridge’s Fish and Chips, located at luxury department store Harrods in London.

Costing a staggering £37, this excludes a drink and service charge. The Michelin star chef is said to take “the UK’s favourite dish to new heights” with a menu offering “Britain’s finest, freshest seafood, all ethically caught and hand-selected by local fishmongers”.

On the restaurant’s website, it adds: “From the daily catch to hand-dived scallops and native lobster, there’s a variety of grilled and deep-fried options – with our signature crisp and gluten-free batter – that will have you salivating. Served with triple-cooked alongside a choice of dips or choose to pair yours with caviar and crème fraiche, or homemade Matson curry sauce.”

Laurence, who is known for tasting food and testing other items online, recently visited the spot and shared his thoughts over on his @letstestlaurencemore TikTok page. In the clip, Laurence made his way through the luxury department store and asked for a table for one at Kerridge’s Fish and Chips, where he was told there would be a 20 minute wait.

Sitting at the bar, Laurence noted the “quite simple menu”, and explained he would be getting the “famous catch of the day”. He also ordered a Bavarian lager to drink alongside his meal.

When the dish was presented in front of him, he said: “Wow, look at that”. He added that it smelled “absolutely incredible”.

While he was baffled by the fact they “only give you nine chips”, there’s no doubting he was impressed by the flavour. After squeezing lemon over his fish and picking up a chip to try, he said: “Nice and crunchy. Very soft on the inside.”

Next he cut a piece of fish to try on its own, and said: “It looks very, very good. Nice, crispy batter. Well seasoned.” He then tried it with the trio of sauces it comes with, and was especially impressed by the tartare sauce. “This tartare sauce is very good,” he noted.

After paying the bill for what he said was the “most expensive fish and chips in London”, he said the total came to “a little over £56”, and the fish and chips themselves cost £37, which he said was “obviously very expensive”.

In the comment section people were very divided when it came to the price. One person wrote: “Give me a proper fish and chips from a proper fish shop any day of the week over this.” Another said: “Nine chips?! I am very partial to fish and chips, but will give his a miss.” And a third commented: “My local fish and chip shop looks just as good… Four portions for that price and more than nine chips too!”

However, others were less surprised. One person commented: “If you go to Harrods expect to pay a huge premium on whatever you buy. I personally wouldn’t pay £37 for cod and a few chips but if your funds are unlimited then enjoy the experience.”

Another added: “To be honest I expected you to say the price was a lot more. It’s around £25 in Perth Australia for fish and chips from a chippy.” And a third wrote: “That’s cheap considering it’s in Harrods… Thought it be over just short of a hundred.”

Tom Kerridge has been approached for comment.
