Jordan Pickford breaks silence on new Everton contract and secret behind deal

By staff14 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Everton and England goalkeeper Pickford reveals his driving force and secret behind his consistency for Three Lions, having still not conceded a goal in World Cup qualifying

England No.1 Jordan Pickford says he is “happy at Everton” as he prepares to commit himself to a new four-year deal at the club. Everton keeper Pickford, 31, has been fiercely loyal to the Toffees and brilliantly consistent for England throughout his career.

Pickford is set to sign a deal later this week but the keeper says his sole focus now is on England and that is the secret behind his remarkable consistency for the Three Lions.

Pickford said: “Obviously everyone knows how happy I am at Everton but I’m not going to go too much into it. I’ve got my England head on for the next two days. I just want to get the qualification, get the win tomorrow and hopefully get another cap and hit number 80. That’s my sole focus at the minute.”

Pickford has yet to concede a goal in this qualifying campaign and, remarkably, his stats show he has made just one mistake leading to a goal – against Belgium in March 2024 – in 79 caps.

He believes that is down to his determination and dedication in training every day as to why he has remained remained so consistent for England.

Pickford added: “I put it down to the way I train. I feel like I train really well. I train to improve. When the session is put on, I give 100 percent. I think I tick every box Monday to Friday to be at the best I can be on a match day.

“And I’ll never change that method. I think it does work. Some I did as a young kid, it got put into us as a young kid because when you’re at youth team and you’re not training well or you’re trying to have a down day, you probably wouldn’t get picked to play on a Saturday.

“I’ve never changed that attitude. I’ve always had that mentality. I train as the way I play. I know it’s an easy saying but it’s something that I feel has worked … because I’ve ticked every box.

“I’m fully prepared for what is going to come on match-day, that’s where I step up that’s the arena where I go and enjoy myself and put on a display.”
