5 things professional cleaners always do to ‘maintain a spotless home’

By staff14 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

If you want to ensure that your home stays shining all year round, it isn’t impossible. You just need to follow the routines of professional cleaners who always do five things to make sure that their spaces are clean

Keeping your entire house spick and span can sometimes seem like a daunting task. While the usual chores of hoovering and laundry are part of the routine, embarking on a full house deep clean can be intimidating.

However, if you’re keen to keep your home gleaming all year round, it’s not an impossible feat. All you need to do is follow the routines of professional cleaners who always stick to five key steps to ensure their spaces stay clean – without feeling overwhelmed in the process.

Sandy Willis, a Molly Maid owner, shared her cleaning routine with Southern Living, revealing how she keeps her space tidy without getting stressed out.

Divide tasks

The first thing Sandy does is divide the upkeep of her home throughout the week. She allocates time for more intensive cleaning and intersperses it with smaller, easier tasks like hoovering and dusting throughout the week

For instance, once a month, she will dedicate a day for a thorough deep clean, but during the rest of the month, she still tackles smaller tasks so that the deep clean doesn’t feel so overwhelming, reports the Express.

Use zones

Go through your house and divide it into zones or tasks. Sally advised: “This zoning strategy prevents burnout and ensures each area gets the attention it deserves.

“It typically takes me about two weeks to complete the whole process, dedicating a few hours every week to a specific zone or task.”

Prioritise

When you do decide to get a deep clean going, it can be helpful to prioritise tasks.

Sally does this by focusing on the aspects of cleaning that have a health impact for her family, for example deep cleaning dusty carpets or high touch areas like door knobs and kitchen surfaces.

She said: “I believe many people might not consider the importance of cleaning these areas regularly, but they can harbor a significant amount of dust and allergens.”

Set goals for yourself

Deep cleans can be a real slog, but if you have a goal in mind that you want to achieve, you can get a sense of reward when you finish.

If you set yourself a target of completing one room, and reward yourself with a treat afterwards, it feels more like an achievement.

Sally also said that listening to music or a podcast when you clean can make it feel more like fun and less like a chore.

Take tips from the experts

Although you might not be a professional cleaner yourself, that doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from them.

Using professional grade cleaners and tools will make a big difference, and by using the methods the experts use you may find that cleaning your home becomes significantly easier.
