Chelsea news: Blues ‘thought they had Marc Guehi’ as rejected transfer plea emerges

By staff17 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Chelsea news amid claims the Blues were close to re-signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, while details of a rejected transfer plea have emerged from Stamford Bridge

We may be outside of a transfer window but the future of current players and potential new signings seldom goes away at Chelsea. In a break from the norm, the Blues managed to recoup as much as they spent during the last window.

But following a solid if unspectacular start to the season that left them seventh going into the international break, the Blues could be busy when the window flings open again in January.

On the pitch, Chelsea will be hoping to heap the pressure on former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou when they return to action in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. Postecoglou has endured a nightmare start to reign at Nottingham Forest and could be sacked if the Blues win at the City Ground.

Jorgensen plea rejected

Filip Jorgensen has barely had a look-in this season, making just two appearances. The first was off the bench after Robert Sanchez was sent off early at Manchester United, while his only start came in the Carabao Cup victory at Lincoln, where he looked distinctly shaky.

If Jorgensen had got his way in the summer, he would have been playing in the Netherlands for PSV Eindhoven, who wanted to sign the Dane on loan. Their pursuit of Jorgensen is featured in a PSV documentary titled ‘Ever Change a Winning Team,’ which chronicles events behind the scenes in the summer.

Per PSV fans, the two clubs held talks and Jorgensen was keen to sign, only for Chelsea to refuse to sanction a loan. PSV looked elsewhere for keepers, signing Nick Olij permanently from Sparta Rotterdam and Matej Kovar on loan from Bayern Leverkusen.

‘Chelsea thought they had Guehi’

Chelsea thought they had the signing of Marc Guehi in the bag, long before Liverpool ’s interest in the Crystal Palace and England defender. That’s according to club legend Pat Nevin, who believes the Blues may have now missed the boat, despite Guehi, who started out at Stamford Bridge before leaving for Palace, being out of contract at the end of this season.

Nevin told OLBG: “As far as I understand, Chelsea thought they had Marc Guehi before, but they didn’t get him. I can’t remember how long ago that was, a year and a half ago, something like that. They thought they had him.

“If they had gone in again this time, they’d have been battling against the very, very biggest clubs, and that becomes difficult. You have to look at your budgets then.

“Chelsea obviously do not have a lot of money. If you spend two billion quid, you have to be a wee bit more careful if you spend that amount. I think had they thought they could get Guehi, I think they would definitely have gone for it.”

Fernandez injury boost

Enzo Fernandez looks set to return to Chelsea action at Forest after suffering an injury scare while on Argentina international duty. The midfielder returned home early with a knee issue, but it is not thought to be serious.

Meanwhile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana are also expected to be available following their respective fitness issues. Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro and Reece James all stayed at home during the international break to recover from their injuries, while Levi Colwill and Liam Delap are long-term absentees. Cole Palmer’s fitness is up in the air following his recent injury issues which saw him miss England’s World Cup qualifiers.
