A woman has admitted to killing 10 dogs as she went through the process of testing out a poison, which she would later put in a bean stew and use to murder a 65-year-old man
A “pyschopath” woman has confessed to poisoning 10 dogs as she tweaked the levels of the substance she intended to use for a murder rampage.
A 65-year-old man died after eating a “toxic bean stew”, initially falling ill at home and then being taken to hospital for treatment. But authorities have alleged that it was more than a case of food poisoning that took Neil Correa da Silva’s life.
According to reports, they believe that a secret, twisted plot was hatched by his daughter and another woman, Ana Paula Veloso, to murder him with poison and try to frame someone else for the killing. Investigating authorities claim that Veloso is also responsible for three other deaths, branding her a “serial killer”.
They have said that Veloso admitted killing 10 dogs as she tested out the timings and dosage of the poison she planned to give the victim, in an attempt to make sure his death didn’t not seem like a poisoning case.
Police chief Halisson Ideiao said, “She confesses that she killed 10 dogs with this poison, testing the method and the timing. She knew exactly how long, the dosage, and what would happen to the people who consumed what she offered.”
Another member of the investigating team said, “She didn’t kill impulsively – she killed methodically”.
Police found terbufos in Veloso’s home, a rat poison reported to be slightly weaker than lead. Text messages between Veloso and da Silva’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva – a 43-year-old bus driver and law student – allegedly discuss the pair’s plan to poison the pensioner.
The apparent conspiracy may go further, with Veloso’s twin sister Roberta accused of providing both practical and moral support. Veloso is alleged to have been paid R$4,000 (£560) by Michele to travel to Rio and commit the murder of Neil, as well as three others between January and April of this year, with the police chief saying: “Ana Paula poisoned four people, including Neil, on Michelle’s orders”.
He added, “Their behaviour is identical: closeness, manipulation, and the use of poison as a silent weapon”.
Neil died on April 26 at the Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, and his body is set to be exhumed for further forensic tests.
The police also accuse Veloso of attempting to frame someone else by pretending that someone had tried to do the same to her, and that she was in fact a victim.
“Ana Paula Veloso came to our police station because of an alleged poisoned cake inside a college. She planted this alleged poisoned cake to try to frame a third person . Through this investigation, we concluded that Ana Paula was not the victim in this case, but rather a serial killer ,” the police chief said.
