Tragic final moments of mum who died in home birth from ‘biggest wish’ to ‘brave last act’

By staff20 October 2025No Comments5 Mins Read

An influencer who dreamed of becoming a mother for years has tragically died after giving birth to her first child. Her distraught husband has revealed the one comfort he takes from her brave final moments

A popular influencer has died just hours after giving birth to her first child at home, her distraught husband has shared.

Stacey Hatfield was best known for promoting a ‘low tox’ lifestyle and natural recipes on her social media account, which had 17,200 followers. Her own health problems – including “digestive issues, skin problems, a lack of energy and low immunity” – inspired her to start her business Natural Spoonfuls.

The 30-year-old died suddenly on 29 September after suffering an ‘extremely rare complication’ following a home birth, where she delivered her firstborn son. She was rushed to hospital but nothing could be done to save her.

After giving birth, Stacey was able to hold and nurse her beloved baby Axel for the first time, but her devastated family say she ‘was only able to experience the joy for a few short moments’. The cause of Stacey’s death remains unclear, but her loved ones say she passed away ‘due to complications from childbirth’.

The Melbourne influencer’s husband, Nathan Warnecke, has shared his anguish in a heartbreaking post on Instagram, where he said that Stacey had dreamt of becoming a parent for many years.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I share with you the unexpected passing of my beautiful wife, soul mate and best friend, Stacey,’ he wrote.

“Stace passed on the 29th September 2025 after successfully giving birth to our firstborn son, Axel, at home.

“Tragically, shortly after, an unforeseen and extremely rare complication arose and she passed after being transferred to hospital. Hospital staff were amazing and did the utmost to help, but ultimately nothing could be done despite their best efforts.”

Honouring his late wife in the tragic tribute, Nathan said that one comfort during ‘this horrible time’ is that Stacey’s last moments were her happiest.

“[She was] the happiest I’ve ever seen her,” he recalled. “Her memory will remain with those of us that knew her as the ditzy, green-eyed, blonde-haired girl whose smile could fill a room.”

The couple got married on a beach in the Maldives less than a year before the tragedy, with Nathan describing the day as ‘the happiest of [his] life’.

“I knew Stace for nine amazing years. She was the light of my life and the reason I got up in the morning. Words can’t do justice to how devastating this is for myself and everyone that knew and loved her. She was my lighthouse in the storm and the world is less bright without her in it,” he wrote.

The dad also celebrated Stacey’s passion for simple living, deep love of nature and their travels around the world. “She lived her whole life with an appreciation for everything she had and cared not for materialistic possessions. Her favourite pastime was reading a book with a mug of green tea and our French Bulldog, Winter, by her side,” he added.

Above all, he said, Stacey’s biggest dream was to become a parent. “It was her life’s biggest dream to be a mum. She did it. On her terms, exactly the way she always dreamed of doing it,” Nathan wrote.

“She loved being pregnant and over the last nine months told our son she loved him every day. She held Axel when he was born, nursed him, saw that he was a boy and loved him. She loved him so much and still continues to love him.”

Loved ones have rushed to support Nathan as he comes to terms with the loss of his wife. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the single dad, who often works night shifts as professional surveyor working on the establishment of new roads. The fundraiser has reached £13,150 so far, with a target of £24,000.

‘”Nathan is not one to ask for help, however we know he will need assistance. The challenge to provide all that a young child needs without his soulmate is a daunting one whilst dealing with such a tragic loss,” Jon Downie, a close pal of the couple, said.

“Late night feedings, nappy changes and adjustment to this new life are a heavy burden for a young father even with the support of family.”

The funds will go towards funeral costs, supplies for baby Axel, household bills and time off for Nathan as he navigates the tragedy and becoming a single father.

Ending his tribute with a gut-wrenching goodbye, Nathan said: “Thank you for a wonderful life together my love. I know this isn’t the end – I look forward to seeing you again someday.”
