A cleaning expert has shared a simple trick to make your home smell delicious this autumn, and it’s perfect for those cosy nights in on the sofa
As autumn firmly takes hold, many of us are keen to create a cosy haven for those snug evenings on the couch and comfy mornings at home.
Despite the chilly weather discouraging us from opening our windows as often for fresh air, it doesn’t mean we’re doomed to endure months of a musty-smelling abode.
In fact, there’s a simple solution, as explained by a cleaning guru, that will also add an autumnal touch to your rooms this season.
Cleaning whizz Chantel Mila, who boasts a whopping 1.6 million followers on TikTok, shared her straightforward trick to infuse her home with a deliciously autumnal aroma during the colder months.
All you need are a few natural ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen cupboards, reports the Express.
Combine one cup of boiling water, one sliced orange, two cinnamon sticks, and three star anise in a dish and place it under a candle warmer. This scent will “leave your home smelling so cosy and warm” and is “perfect for cold, rainy days”, according to Chantel.
She also clarified that if you don’t own a candle warmer, you can concoct the mixture on the hob and leave it to simmer.
Chantel, an aroma expert, has shared a recipe for a homemade fragrance that includes two sticks of cinnamon, one teaspoon of clove and one teaspoon of vanilla extract added to boiling water. “The cinnamon and clove add a woody fragrance and the vanilla adds sweetness. It’s a twist on stovetop potpourri but can be used in any room,” she told her followers.
She also offered advice on how to keep your bedroom smelling fresh. She suggests dusting your bedside tables with a cloth and linen spray to add a “hidden fragrance” to the room.
For the bed, Chantel creates her own freshness spray. She combines one cup of water with half a cup of white vinegar and a few drops of lavender or peppermint oil in a spray bottle.
After spraying it onto your mattress and fabric headboard, let everything air out before putting fresh sheets back on.
In the bathroom, she recommends deodorising bath mats by sprinkling them with baking soda before washing as usual – this trick can also be applied to smelly towels.
The kitchen is often one of the smelliest areas in the home, but Chantel has a solution for that too. She suggests wiping down your bin with peppermint oil to eliminate odours and deter bugs and spiders.
After removing an old bin bag, she advises dropping cotton balls soaked in essential oil into the bottom of your bin, underneath the next bin liner.
