Arsenal are braced for their biggest test of the Champions League campaign to date when they host Atletico Madrid, and UK viewers can tune into the action for free

Tom Sunderland Sports Writer

07:00, 21 Oct 2025

After winning both of their Champions League games so far this season, Arsenal welcome Atletico Madrid to the Emirates on Matchday 3. The Gunners will undergo their biggest test of the European campaign thus far as they hope to keep touch at the top of the expanded league table.

The current Premier League leaders have already fended off challenges from Athletic Club and Olympiacos this season. However, Diego Simeone’s side promise to hand the Gunners an upgrade in competition when they visit England’s capital on Tuesday.

Los Rojiblancos are currently fourth in La Liga and have gone undefeated in six games across all competitions. However, the Madrid giants are also still seeking their first away win of the 2025/26 campaign as they travel to north London.

It’s been more than seven years since these teams last faced off in the semi-finals of the 2017/18 Europa League. Atleti came out on top on that occasion before going on to lift continental silverware, hoping a win over the Gunners will yield similar good omens this time around.

What time is Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid on?

Tuesday’s showdown is scheduled to kick off at 8pm local time (9pm Madrid time). However, pre-match coverage will begin one hour before the first whistle.

What channel is Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid on?

Amazon Prime has locked down the rights to broadcast this week’s clash between two European heavyweights. A valid Amazon subscription will be required to tune in, with coverage set to begin from 6:55pm UK time.

How to watch Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid for free

It’s possible to watch the battle at the Emirates for free by signing up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime. It’s possible to cancel the trial without being charged provided it’s done before 30 days have passed.

What is the Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid team news?

Mikel Arteta could name an identical XI to the team that beat Fulham 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Leandro Trossard’s decider. The former Barcelona prospect is still dealing with the absences of captain Martin Odegaard, as well as attackers Noni Madueke, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Viktor Gyokeres has now gone seven games without a goal for the Gunners and is still seeking his first goal in Europe since joining this summer. Meanwhile, ex-Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino could be brought into midfield to add a little extra muscle against Los Rojiblancos.

Simeone, meanwhile, may have to rotate Nicolas Gonzalez out at left wing-back after he came off injured during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Osasuna. The manager’s son, Giuliano, is among the candidates to replace him, while Thiago Almada will also be hoping to start after coming on to net the only goal against Osasuna.

Midfielder Johnny Cardoso is the most significant absence for Simeone and won’t be involved at the Emirates. However, defensive prospect Ilias Kostis also won’t be available for the travelling outfit.
