Banish condensation on windows and save money on bills with £2.99 method

Condensation on windows is a common issue in UK homes during the winter months, but one savvy homeowner has shared a simple hack to prevent it using a simple item

Winter is definitely on the horizon, with the UK weather forecast indicating a steady decrease in temperatures. This means many Brits are turning up their heating and snuggling under cosy blankets to stay warm.

However, the cold snap also heralds the unwelcome appearance of condensation on windows. The irritating issue often crops up when warm air hits cold surfaces or there’s too much humidity in your home.

When moisture-laden warm air touches a cold surface, it releases water, forming droplets. Often this results in condensation on your windows which, if overlooked, could lead to the growth of black mould – potentially harmful if not tackled.

Now, one TikTok user has unveiled a hack that costs just £3.50 from Amazon. In a post to over 31,000 followers, Claire tried out a window insulation kit bought from the online retailer to see if it truly works.

According to Claire, these kits can reduce heat loss, prevent condensation and save on heating bills. The inexpensive product operates by blocking drafts and helping to stop condensation.

It’s energy efficient and can cut “heating costs”. Simply apply the sheet to your window and check the results the next morning.

The TikTok user was asked if the item solved her condensation problem. After racking up over 10,700 likes for her post, the user responded to a comment with insightful advice: “Yes it stopped on the windows.

“But a cold house with lots of air moisture could end up with mould elsewhere without a dehumidifier or better ventilation.”

In another helpful tip, she mentioned: “I find they stick better if you really clean the frames first – dry them completely then stick the tape on quick. They won’t stay if not clean and dry.”

You can grab one of these insulating sheets from Amazon for £2.99, or pick up a pack of four for just £5.99.

Experts suggest that these insulation sheets can be brilliant for tackling condensation, yet successful outcomes depend on their proper application.

Insulated steel roof sheets with an integrated barrier can also ward off condensation and keep your home toasty.

Anti-condensation sheeting comes equipped with membranes to minimise moisture build-up.

However, it’s important to bear in mind that incorrect installation of insulation can worsen condensation problems.

For instance, insulation placed too close to walls or roofs may create a cold spot prone to attracting dampness.

Another factor to consider is that insulation without a suitable vapour barrier might permit moisture to pass through.
