Bruce Springsteen helps director’s family after LA wildfire destroys home

Bruce Springsteen’s new biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, charts the career of the 76-year-old music legend, who has been dubbed ‘The Boss’

Bruce Springsteen came to the rescue of director Scott Cooper and his family after their home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires. The rock legend, known as The Boss, offered a helping hand to the filmmaker, who is directing the new biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”, after Scott, 55, and his family lost everything in the fire.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Scott revealed: “He moved my family into his home when our house burned. My daughter Stella, who was learning guitar when her guitar burned – Bruce promptly sent her one of his. That’s who Bruce Springsteen is.

“To move my family and me into his house while we got on our feet, it brings a special resonance to this movie, which is why it’s so hard to put it out into the world.”

Scott was on set with actor Jeremy Allen White, who portrays Bruce in the biopic, when he received the “devastating call” that his house had been consumed by the blaze.

On that same day, he had been filming a scene featuring Jeremy singing ‘Born To Run’, and a poignant moment between the rock star and his father Douglas, played by Stephen Graham.

He remembered: “[I spent] five minutes in the corner crying, understanding our lives would never be the same.”

He confessed: “[That was] without question, the hardest day I’ve ever had shooting a movie.”

To add to the family’s woes, they had to make the heartbreaking decision to have their beloved family dog put down just a week later.

Despite the hardships, Scott praised his daughters Ava and Stella for their resilience, saying: “My daughters Ava and Stella are incredibly resilient.

“They’ve been better with this than I could have ever hoped, because we, like many others, lost everything.

“And then a week after our house burns, we had to euthanise our dog. It was like a bad country song. It was awful. It’s been the worst year of my life, but also the best.”

Jeremy recently said about having Bruce on set for the movie: “It was very hard. Especially because he’s sitting there the whole time.

“I had not had a lot of experience – or any experience – singing, playing guitar, any of it, before I took on the role. So that was daunting, to say the least, in the beginning. I had a lot of time, but I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked. You never do, you know? I had about six months to kind of learn.”
