Liverpool star Andy Robertson sends message to Jordan Henderson ahead of Brentford reunion

By staff24 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will face his old club when Brentford host the Reds in the Premier League on Saturday and Andy Robertson is looking forward to seeing him

Andy Robertson hasn’t been tempted to text his former team-mate Jordan Henderson ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Brentford this weekend. The Reds travel to west London on Saturday after ending their four-match losing streak against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

Arne Slot’s side had been stuck in a rut heading to Germany, but thrashed Frankfurt 5-1 to get back on track. There were five different goalscorers in a morale-boosting victory that came after Slot made the big call to drop Mohamed Salah to the bench.

Liverpool now need to continue their momentum against Brentford in the Premier League, having lost their last three in the competition against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United to drop to third place. There will be a familiar face on the other side, with former Reds captain Henderson now turning out in midfield for Brentford.

Henderson made 492 appearances for Liverpool before leaving for Saudi Arabia two years ago and has found his way to Brentford via a spell at Ajax. The 35-year-old has made a significant impact in Keith Andrews’ side and will have given his new side the low down on his old team.

Robertson is a close friend of the midfielder but said he will leave the pleasantries until after the full-time whistle. “I think if I even tried I don’t think he would text me so I’ll save that for after the game,” he said.

“Hendo is an absolute legend of our club, what he has done for us within our changing room and the trophies he lifted. It will be nice to see him but I know he will be up for the fight like he always is and our midfield will have a hell of a battle against him, like all our players will because Brentford are a tough team. Hopefully if we get the win I can have a nice catch-up with him after the game.”

While it was Salah’s benching and Hugo Ekitike who made the headlines by scoring on return to his old club, there was another important performance for Liverpool. Florian Wirtz didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he did register two assists in an eye-catching display.

“I thought he was outstanding, excellent,” Robertson said. “I thought he grew and grew into the game, especially the second half. Players around him helped him a lot – Curtis Jones was outstanding – and I thought the three midfielders helped us gain the momentum and keep the ball.

“Flo has been really good since he came here. People focus on numbers of goals and assists but at times it’s unfair as he’s created a hell of a lot of chances and on Wednesday some of the chances he created ended up as an assist. Hopefully he can take a lot from this performance.”
