Police are investigating what led to the death of a three-year-old boy in a Queensland police station, moments after being witness to horror crash

A three-year-old boy has tragically died at a police station after suffering critical injuries in horror crash.

A three-year-old child has died in a police station after suffering critical injuries in horror crash on the northern Gold Coast. Police were called to Burnside Road following reports of a traffic crash shortly after 5am on Saturday October 25.

A witness reportedly helped a 22-year-old woman and the three-year-old child out of their vehicle and transported them to Beenleigh Police Station. A short while after arriving the toddler became unresponsive in the foyer of the station, and despite the efforts of officers who performed CPR on the little boy, he sadly passed away.

Before officers arrived at the crash scene a 24-year-old man believed to have also been in the car, left the crash site with a one-year-old boy. But they were later both located at a Beenleigh address at about 6.30am.

The one- year-old was taken to hospital for treatment while the man is currently assisting police with enquiries.

A statement on the Queensland Police website reads: “Police are investigating a fatal traffic incident on the northern Gold Coast early this morning Saturday, 25 October.

“Shortly before 5am, police were called to Burnside Road address following reports of a traffic crash. Initiation inquiries indicate a witness to the crash assisted, a 22-year-old woman and child, also in the vehicle, transporting them to the Beenleigh Police Station.

“A short time later, the 3-year-old child became unresponsive in the Beenleigh Police Station with officers performing CPR, however the boy died.

“A 24-year-old Beenleigh man, believed to have also been in the vehicle, had left the scene with another child prior to police arrival. The man and a one-year-old boy were located by police at an address in Beenleigh around 6.30am. The boy was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The man is currently assisting police with inquiries. There is no threat to the community. Multiple crime scenes have been established as investigations are ongoing. Beenleigh Police Station has re-opened.”
