Cadbury fans in awe after discovering method to make Flake chocolate bar

By staff12 November 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Cadbury is one of the most famous confectionery brands on the planet, with many of its products instantly recognisable – but fans were left baffled after seeing how one of its most famous bars is really made

Cadbury lovers were stunned after discovering how one of the brand’s most iconic chocolate bars is actually manufactured. The legendary British confectioner remains a cherished favourite for millions, boasting a rich heritage that has captivated successive generations.

First established in 1824, Cadbury quickly rose to prominence as an industrial powerhouse, evolving into one of the globe’s most recognisable sweet-making enterprises, with numerous products achieving widespread fame and recognition. There’s the timeless Dairy Milk, which features various flavour innovations and blends to broaden its popularity. Then there’s the Flake, which was initially created in 1920 when factory employee Ralph Thompson is said to have spotted delicate streams of surplus chocolate that had dripped from the moulds and hardened into crumbly chocolate fragments.

Around 10 years later, Cadbury started selling the bar as a partner to soft-serve vanilla ice cream, and an iconic duo was established in the zeitgeist of British summer culture.

Recently, fans have learned the method behind the beloved chocolate bar’s production.

Through its official TikTok account, family-friendly attraction Cadbury World lifted the veil and revealed the ingenious process used to create the characteristic crumbly texture.

In the clip, viewers are welcomed to observe as Cadbury World “try and make the perfect Flake”. A sheet of partially melted chocolate can be seen spread out on a surface in the video.

A staff member, donning a T-shirt in the iconic Cadbury purple, uses a metal scraper to push the chocolate towards the camera, creating a flaky, rippled shape.

However, the first attempt didn’t quite hit the mark as the chocolate was too warm. They gave it another go which was slightly better, but the chocolate was still too warm to achieve the desired result.

The third time was the charm, with the chocolate finally rippling into the distinctive Flake shape.

In the caption accompanying the video, Cadbury World wrote: “Did you know that you can temper chocolate in our Have a Go Zone at Cadbury World?”

TikTok users were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section. One person said: “Idk [I don’t know] how I thought it was made but it wasn’t this.”

Another said: “Wait that’s how Flakes are made.”

One user queried: “If this how Flakes are made, can you explain to me why they do not melt please?”

To which, another chocolate enthusiast responded: “The chocolate that Flakes are made from is dehydrated. Since a lot of the water is taken out, it changes the chocolate’s molecular structure.”

An American user shared: “Hi, American here, Flakes and Twirls are two of my favourite candy bars. There is really no American candy that’s comparable.”

Another added: “Cadbury broke my sense of chocolate, it’s either Cadbury or nothing at all. They really know what they are doing.”

Cadbury operates in 50 countries worldwide, with some of its most cherished products being the Dairy Milk, the festive Roses selection tins that are released every winter, and the iconic Creme Egg, which usually hits the shelves in January and is sold until Easter.
