Alejandro Garnacho’s response to bashing sums him up as Chelsea ace left out in the cold

By staff13 November 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Alejandro Garnacho has been in sensational form for Chelsea after leaving Manchester United, responding well at Stamford Bridge after a difficult couple of months for club and country

Alejandro Garnacho has delivered the ideal riposte to his Argentina snub and any worries about his conduct. The 21-year-old last featured for his nation in November 2024, with his closing six months or so at Manchester United proving equally challenging.

After being dropped by Ruben Amorim against Manchester City in December, Garnacho battled for consistent starts in the first team. He was left out of the squad for their season finale against Aston Villa – four days after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final – having been informed by Amorim he was permitted to leave.

Speculation surrounding Chelsea had existed since January, with the winger eventually completing his switch from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge in late August for £40million, reports the Manchester Evening News.

His West London arrival was greeted with limited enthusiasm and some apprehension given his past behavioural issues. Former Argentina star Oscar Ruggeri has claimed that explains his absence from the national setup for over 12 months in a scathing assessment of Garnacho.

He told ESPN: “He’s no better than anyone else, you’re a football player, enjoy it, but you shouldn’t be so full of yourself. It’s pointless because you miss out on so much.

“Someone has to bring him down to earth. They’re not calling him up to the national team. If he comes back down to earth like he was, they’ll call him up again because he’s phenomenal on the pitch.”

It seemingly hasn’t been a problem at Chelsea, however, Garnacho, impressing at Cobham with his ‘attitude and intensity’ during training sessions, according to a report from Give Me Sport.

The young talent has also been putting in extra hours to enhance his game in the final third, which was evident in Chelsea’s last two matches where he scored a goal and provided two assists.

In the Champions League against Qarabag, Garnacho equalised just eight minutes after coming on, with a clever left-footed finish. Three days later, he provided two assists in Chelsea’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Wolves in the Premier League.

He delivered an excellent cross for Malo Gusto to score the opening goal, before outpacing Santiago Bueno and setting up Pedro Neto with a perfectly weighted cross.

Despite his impressive performances, it seems that Garnacho’s impact came too late to be considered by Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni for their upcoming matches, despite club teammate Enzo Fernandez and Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono being side-lined due to injuries.

However, if Garnacho continues to perform at this level, it’s highly likely that he’ll be back in contention for a spot at the World Cup.
