A puppy found living on the streets had been “injured so badly”, rescuers were told he’d have to be put down and now, 22 days later, the little dog has people in tears
A puppy who was found injured on the streets has left people in “tears” after a dramatic 22 day transformation at the hands of a UK charity working to help “fix the global street dog problem”. Street dogs are sadly no stranger to suffering as they can often struggle to find shelter and food, while also lacking access to medical care, and can be at risk of abuse from humans.
Founded in 2021 from a “simple act” of feeding a “few hungry street dogs on Sunday mornings”, Happy Doggo charity is based in Thailand and has since expanded to a “global organisation, with employees, partners, and volunteers all over the world”.
One dog who’s reaping the rewards of their service is Stormzy, a little puppy who “was so badly injured” after being hit by a car three weeks ago, Happy Doggo founder Niall Harbison was told he would have to be put to sleep.
Now, 22 days later, Stormzy is walking and even giving running a go. Niall shared a video update on X and penned: “22 days ago I would have said what Stomzy did today was impossible. Hard to believe…”
In the comments section, fellow social media users shared their thoughts.
One person said: “I just cannot believe what Storm has accomplished. Imagine the heart and determination this little dog must possess to come this far. It is an amazing thing to watch in real time.”
They then added: “The Tina’s Hospital veterinarian – I apologise, I don’t remember his name – who examined [Stormzy] when Niall first carried him in, and we’ve all seen the condition that poor puppy was in – that doc deserves all the accolades we can shower on him.
“He looked at Storm and said, let’s WAIT… give his brain a chance to rest and decompress. That man is a hero. Most vets would not have had that foresight. Even my vet who I adore, I’m sure she would have said the humane thing would be euthanasia.”
Another shared: “Tears of joy!!! Stormzy is beginning to run!! He’s such a miracle that you saved, Niall! Wow!”
Someone else agreed: “Stormzy you won the jackpot when you were taken to Happy Doggo! Every day that little tail wags more and you’re growing into a big boy with the personality to match.”
Happy Doggo was founded by Niall Harbison who, after “recovering from a near-death experience” and keen to get his life “back on track”, started jogging around Koh Samui, Thailand.
This was when he noticed the many “malnourished dogs” and became determined to help them.
Happy Doggo’s website states: “In 2023, Niall travelled to Europe, The US, and Dubai, organising walks where dog lovers could meet up, chat, and talk about their collective goals to help street dogs.
“Niall secured a piece of land and set about making a sanctuary for dogs to recuperate, taking in only the most sick and vulnerable dogs.
“Today, Happy Doggo Land has capacity for 15 dogs, an on-site kitchen that prepares food for over 1,000 dogs a day, and a field clinic for Happy Doggo residents and visiting street dogs.
“In 2025, we will also begin construction on a state of the art hospital to treat an even wider range of injuries and illnesses.”
