‘Snag’s fruity jumper has brightened up my winter wardrobe and feels so expensive’

The Fruity Jumper from Snag is a playful addition to any wardrobe with its strawberry and cherry design, says fashion writer Eve Rowlands

When the wintery weather comes knocking, as much as I love a good woollen scarf and hat combo for keeping me warm, nothing quite beats a knitted jumper. Especially one that is roomy enough to feel like a blanket, thus making it oh-so-cosy. Even better when its design injects a whole lot of colour and pizzazz to an outfit with no effort and has numerous people asking where it’s from.

Bearing pink and red hues, the £49.99 Fruity Jumper from Snag has well and truly cheered up my winter wardrobe with its playful and bright pattern that features giant red strawberries and cherries. A design many friends of mine have told me is a rarity (it’s either strawberries, like this £30 Boden jumper , or cherries… seldom both).

What made me fall in love with this jumper is that said strawberries and cherries decorate a bright pink background, which creates my favourite colour combination (one which in the last year or so has become highly popular – I see you pink and red Handball Spezials).

Made with a relatively thin scoop neck, the jumper has a very relaxed fit and quite long style finished off with a wide ribbed hemline and small slit. While its length is ‘so bums and tums are catered for’, I did find it was a little too much and could, in some circumstances, look like a jumper dress. I would have preferred it to be a little shorter on my 5’6 frame, but paired with the right trousers and shoes, it just about worked.

This rather oversized fit does give the knit a real luxurious look. So much so I had people asking if it was by Slow Love, whose jumpers are loved by celebrities like Giovanna Fletcher, Grace Beverly and more. Although these are mostly hand-knitted with High Quality Cotton yarn and cost quite a bit more, with its Checked Handknit Jumper in pink costing £325 (although that doesn’t stop the brand earning a spot on my wishlist…).

While its body’s length was my one gripe, it’s great for colder weather, especially when working from home, and I love its longer sleeves. They can easily be folded up for when hands need to be free, or kept down for that Claudia Winkleman vibe. Although with her gothic Traitors wardrobe, I doubt she’d sport this vibrant number…

From the pictures on the website, I wasn’t sure what to expect with how it would feel on my skin. While the description says the Fruity Jumper is ‘so soft’ and is made of ‘100% Acrylic’, I was sceptical it’d be coarse noticing its textured criss-cross stitch style. But I was pleasantly surprised when it was smooth and was super comfortable next to my skin.

This is most likely due to the fact that, as the brand notes, it is ‘crafted from premium, pill-resistant yarn’ to keeps its shape and softness.

Unlike most brands, this Snag jumper is available in lettered sizing, from A to J, which covers sizes four to 38 – I’m wearing size C (8-10). Snag is a brand celebrated for its inclusive sizing, having been ‘made by people who get it’. It was founded by Brie Read, initially creating tights after discovering “90% of people couldn’t find tights that fit properly”.

The website explains how Snag was “born to create clothes that actually fit, because every body deserves to feel amazing”. And its knitwear is no different, with its jumpers ranging from belted dresses to lounge wear to hoodies.

One thing to note, as one particular shopper said, is it is quite weighty. Although this didn’t bother me at all and added to its quality, if anything.

Although another Snag fan did share an experience they hope future shoppers don’t go through: “Do not tumble dry!” they warned, adding: “The material has gone slightly fuzzy but it still looks great.” One thing I’ll certainly keep in mind when it’s ready to wash.
