A man who was horrifically attacked with acid at his home has died in hospital, police have confirmed. Danny Cahalane was attacked with sulphuric acid at a property in Plymouth on Friday, February 21 just before 4am.
He had remained in hospital since sustaining the injuries to his face, but tragically died on Saturday, March 3, reports PlymouthLive. Nine people had previously been charged in connection with the incident. His family has now paid tribute to him, saying: “As a family, we are struggling to come to terms with Danny’s passing.
“Danny was an outstanding father and son. Danny and his mum had so much love for each other. He is well loved by his family and friends, and as a family we cherish his love and memories. We ask the family are please given privacy and respect during this time.”
Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Ben Davies, added: “Our thoughts are with Danny’s family and friends at this sad time. The investigation into the incident, which happened on Lipson Road in Plymouth, remains ongoing. Nine people have previously been charged in connection to the incident.”
One of those charged with conspiring to murder Danny was his ex-partner, Paris Wilson, 34, who appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on April 24.
Wilson faced three charges – conspiring together with others to murder Danny Cahalane, conspiring with others to kidnap Mr Cahalane, and participating in a criminal activity of an organised crime group to kidnap and murder Mr Cahalane.
Wilson was once a probation officer in Plymouth’s Barbican area. Part of her job was helping criminals after they were released from prison, setting them up with housing and employment.
She also worked as a volunteer at Dartmoor Prison, where she taught prisoners how to read.
Last month, she wept in the dock at Plymouth Magistrate’s Court charged with conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to kidnap and participating in the criminal activity of an organised crime group.
Others charged in connection with the attack against Danny Cahalane are as follows:
- Ramarnee Bakas, 22, of Bethune Road, London; charged with six offences
- Abdulrasheed Adedoja, 22, of North Circular London; charged with six offences
- Arrone Mukuna, 24, of Werrington Street, London; charged with six offences
- Jean Mukuna, 23, of Werrington Street, London; charged with six offences
- Brian Kalemba, 22, of Estbury Square, London; charged with three offences
- Isanah Sungum, 22, of Stirling Way, Edmonton, London; charged with three offences
- Jenna O’Grady, 38, of Ernesettle Green, Plymouth; charged with three offences
- Israel Augustus, 25, of Pulford Road, London; charged with eight offences
All have been remanded in custody to next appear at Plymouth Crown Court on May 12, for a pre-trial preparation hearing.
