Air fryer salmon will ‘not go dry’ if you use 1 simple ingredient for a ‘crispier crust’

By staff11 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Salmon is a great dinner option for anyone looking to eat healthily, but it is important to get the seasoning right to ensure the fish is moist and flavourful

Salmon makes a brilliant dinner for anyone looking for a healthier choice – and with the perfect recipe, you can turn it into a genuinely mouthwatering meal. Lisa Bryan, a chef and creator of Downshiftology, has disclosed that the simplest method to achieve a crispier crust on salmon is to merely prepare it in the air fryer with the proper seasoning.

She explained: “This air fryer salmon recipe is the secret to a moist and crispy filet that tastes like a million bucks – in under 15 minutes! Perfect for an easy and healthy weeknight dinner recipe for the family.”

However, nobody enjoys dried-out fish, so it is crucial to coat the salmon in Dijon mustard to shield it in the air fryer and help seal in moisture.

Lisa added: “The mustard keeps the top moist and adds that special oomph in flavour.

“You could also use stone-ground mustard for added texture!”, reports the Express.

Dijon mustard functions as a thin barrier that will lock in moisture as the oils in the mustard combine with the natural fats in the salmon.

Not only will your salmon remain moist and flavourful, but the sugars in the mustard will gently caramelise the surface of the fish to maintain an even better crust.

This is a swift way to prepare salmon so it is succulent on the inside with a proper crispy skin on the outside.

How to make tastier salmon in the air fryer

You will need:

  • Four salmon fillets
  • Two tablespoons of Dijon mustard
  • One teaspoon of paprika
  • One teaspoon of garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil spray

Instructions

To begin, pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel and then spread one teaspoon of mustard evenly on each fillet.

Firstly, season the fillets with salt and pepper, then sprinkle a generous amount of garlic and paprika.

Next, spritz the salmon with olive oil to keep the fillet moist.

Set your air fryer to 200C and place two fillets at a time into the air fryer.

Cook for eight-10 minutes until they’re flaky and fork-tender.

Repeat this process with the remaining two fillets, and you’ll find your salmon emerging from the air fryer with a golden caramel crust, yet still succulent.
