It’s only going to be in stores for a limited time – and is made with a popular mineral that claims to help you get a better night’s sleep
Aldi shoppers can pick up a pack of warm drinks for less than £1 that could help them in the bedroom. Experts have claimed there’s one specific ingredient that could improve the quality of their sleep.
A shopper spotted the new Mokate sachets among the new middle aisle products at Aldi stores. There are two versions on offer, but only one has added magnesium in it.
The ‘Milky with Magnesium’ pack includes 10 sachets of instant hot chocolate, costing 99p in Aldi (whilst stocks last). The instructions state that it’s best with hot water but you can add milk instead if you’d like a creamier consistency.
The essential mineral is loved by celebs like Taylor Swift, according to a report by the Express. The NHS says magnesium “can help with sleep”.
Foods such as sugar-free cereals, wholemeal bread, brown rice, spinach, quinoa, black beans, tofu, and avocados all have plenty of magnesium. The mineral is also responsible for producing hormones important for bone health.
The amount of magnesium you need varies depending on several factors. Generally speaking, men aged between 19 and 64 need 300mg while women should aim for slightly less at 270mg daily.
The drink’s nutrition label states each sachet should deliver a 56.3mg boost to your magnesium intake. This means one cup should send you on your way to hitting that goal set by the NHS.
According to the Sleep Foundation, magnesium can help you sleep longer. It’s also been linked to getting better quality sleep and feeling less tired.
The mineral has been referenced to sleep in various studies. Other research has found it may help regulate melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep and circadian rhythms.
The best way to get the recommended amount of magnesium is to eat a balanced and varied diet. There are various other forms to boost your magnesium content if this is not enough, such as supplements in the form of powders and pills.
Before making any major changes to your diet or trying a new supplement, it is always best to speak with a doctor to make sure it is right for you.
