Alexander Isak immediately causing a stir at Newcastle sends clear message to Liverpool

Liverpool have been informed of the calibre of player they would be signing if they brought in Alexander Isak, who caused a stir in his very first Newcastle training session

Liverpool players have been given a clear picture of what to expect from Alexander Isak if the club splashes out to bring him to Anfield this summer. The Swedish striker has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s top forwards during his three-year stint with Newcastle.

Since joining the Magpies, Isak has scored an impressive 62 goals in 109 appearances across all competitions, hitting the 20-goal mark twice in the Premier League. His stellar performances have understandably drawn interest from Arsenal and reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, who have been active in the transfer market so far.

The Reds have already snapped up Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz for £29.5million and £116m respectively, with the latter set to smash the British transfer record once he officially makes the move to Merseyside. According to Give Me Sport, Anfield bosses are prepared to shatter that record again to secure the services of 25-year-old Isak, who is reportedly valued at a staggering £150m by Newcastle.

Isak has been touted as the ‘dream’ signing for Arne Slot, so it’s not entirely out of the question that Liverpool could exceed their £116m offer for Wirtz. And they’ve already been given a detailed rundown of what they can expect from Isak, both in terms of his skill and character, by his Newcastle team-mates.

Earlier this year, The Athletic revealed that Magpies boss Eddie Howe branded Isak as “world class” straight after his first training session almost three years ago. But he wasn’t the only one impressed with the laid-back yet equally driven striker, who dazzled his team-mates by dribbling past them and scoring with ease.

Left in amazement by Isak’s skill, his new team-mates went up to him after the team drills to ask him how he’d pulled it off. “You were thinking straight away, ‘This kid’s got everything,'” former Newcastle wing-back Matt Ritchie recalled.

His shooting skills left a lasting impression on one of the coaches upon witnessing Isak’s “unbelievable” one-touch finishing, which he demonstrated by scoring just 38 minutes into his debut at Anfield.

“He was always going to be a star. You could see it, you could feel it,” Ritchie went on to add. “He’s so powerful, so quick. But Alex is like a racehorse. To keep Alex on the pitch, he needs [everything] to be perfect.”

Defender Dan Burn echoed that sentiment, saying: “He’s got everything. In my opinion, Alex is probably the best striker in the world at the minute.” It was also claimed by an unnamed source that Newcastle needed to “stimulate” Isak, to “really get him going” and push him into raising his levels at the right time.

They appear to have managed that as he became the seventh-fastest player to score 50 Premier League goals (76 matches) this season, with only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah netting more than his 54 goals over the last three top-flight campaigns.

Newcastle have shrewdly tied down Isak to a contract until 2028, allowing them to demand a hefty transfer fee to deter potential buyers. Liverpool are said to be prepared to table an offer around £100m, £16m less than what they’re shelling out for Wirtz, which would fall significantly short of Newcastle’s valuation.

Given Newcastle’s financial backing from Saudi, their return to Champions League football this season and the morale boost from lifting the League Cup, it’s unlikely they’ll be swayed into selling anytime soon.

It’s understood that the only feasible way for Isak to make a move to Anfield would be if the player himself pushed for a transfer away from Newcastle. However, there’s no question about the calibre of player Liverpool would be bringing in if he did.
