Alexander Isak: Liverpool chiefs respond to explosive statement as transfer ‘approved’

By staff20 August 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Newcastle star Alexander Isak has cranked up his attempts to leave St James’ Park with an explosive statement and that only appears to have encouraged the Reds in their bid to sign the forward

Liverpool bosses have APPROVED a stunning British record move for Alexander Isak in the aftermath of his explosive statement. The Newcastle striker ramped up his efforts to leave St James’ Park on Tuesday after breaking his silence on the ongoing transfer furore.

He slammed Magpies chiefs for ‘broken promises’ and claimed that his relationship with the club couldn’t continue. And Isak’s latest attempts only appear to have encouraged Liverpool as they attempt to sign Isak before next month’s deadline.

According to The Sun, Reds chiefs have sanctioned a £130million bid for the 25-year-old and could lodge an offer to Newcastle over the coming days. That amount would eclipse the current British transfer record set earlier this summer when the Reds signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Should Liverpool’s fresh bid be accepted, it would take their summer spending past the £400m mark. Their previous bid for Isak was in the region of £110m but that was rebuffed by Newcastle.

While Liverpool chiefs are priming a new bid, their Newcastle colleagues have also responded to Isak’s latest attempts to leave the club. A statement on Tuesday read: “We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

“We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

Isak has three years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park and Newcastle chiefs are determined to keep him, especially should their demands not be met before next month’s deadline. That has not deterred Isak though, whose statement appears to allude to him never playing for the club again.

Taking to social media, he wrote: “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
