All Chrome users must restart their browsers now and check for crucial Google upgrade

Chrome users should check their settings without delay.

There’s a worrying new warning, and everyone with Chrome would be wise not to ignore it. Google has just confirmed the release of a new version of its popular web software, and those using to search the web, watch movies online and check their Gmail should head to their settings without delay and hit the restart button.

So why the urgency? The very latest version of Chrome must be installed, as it fixes a total of 4 bugs. If that wasn’t bad enough, one of the gremlins has been given the dreaded zero-day rating. That basically means hackers are already aware of it and are actively exploiting it.

“Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2025-10585 exists in the wild,” the company said in its latest release notes.

There are no more details right now about what the issue is or who and how many people have been affected.

All Google is saying is that it was reported by their Threat Analysis Group earlier this month.

“Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix,” the company added. This is often done so that more cyber crooks don’t become aware of the issue and also start trying to exploit it.

So, how do you know if you are running the correct version of Chrome and if your browser is protected?

If you head to the Google Chrome menu in your browser and select “About Chrome”, you’ll see which version is installed. To be protected against this latest issue, you need to be running 140.0.7339.185/.186 for Windows/Mac, and 140.0.7339.185 for Linux

If you have an older version of this software on your PC, then you need to restart things without delay.

Once a full reboot has taken place, you shouldn’t have any further issues.

If you don’t see that latest version, it’s worth checking again soon with Google saying it will arrive on all browsers within the coming days/weeks.
