Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has opened up about the prospect of death, after two of her closest friends were struck down by life-threatening health problems
As she nears her 54th birthday, BGT’s Amanda Holden has been confronting the reality of her mortality, an awakening sparked by the alarming health crises of two close famous friends.
Her Heart Radio co-host Jamie Theakston has only just made his way back to their daily show after a three-month absence due to a terrifying throat cancer diagnosis.
To add to the worries, it emerged that The Masked Singer’s Davina McCall needed a brain op to remove a colloid cyst.
Amanda disclosed to the Daily Mail: “And with Jamie on top of that you just think, ‘This is all going to s***.'” When asked if her pals’ health scares had triggered concern for her own well-being, the star admitted, “‘I’m really good at facing up to things. I have a mammogram and my bloods checked every year. I think that you become very much aware of your own mortality when you become a parent.”
She recounted staying in touch with Jamie during his time off from the radio. Though the cancer he battled could have robbed him of his voice forever, thankfully, early detection meant a return to the mic was possible for Theakston.
“They kept his return as a surprise as they had to be sure he could talk for three and a half hours,” Amanda disclosed. “He looks so much better. He’s on a vegetarian diet too. He’s got a different perspective on life as people who have survived cancer often do.”, reports Surrey Live.
Amanda herself isn’t a stranger to life-altering health scares. Back in 2012, she endured a severe bleed while delivering her daughter, Hollie, which led to her slipping into a coma, with her heart stopping for a terrifying 40 seconds.
In her autobiography, she recounts the harrowing moment, pleading with her husband Chris to save her: “Unbeknown to everyone, my placenta had attached itself to my bladder, and when they lifted it out, it snagged a large artery and ruptured it. I had haemorrhaged and was bleeding to death.
“I looked at Chris and said, ‘Don’t let me die’.”
