Amanda Holden’s daughter Lexi Hughes on the one skincare tip she’s learnt from her mum

When your mum’s amongst the most glamorous personalities on British television, you might assume you’d be well-versed in beauty matters, but as a modern teenager, it can be challenging nowadays to determine what’s suitable – and unsuitable – for your skin.

This is certainly true for 19 year old Lexi Hughes, model and daughter of Amanda Holden and her husband Chris Hughes, and who has recently been revealed as the ambassador for Superdrug’s budget-friendly new skincare range targeting teenage skin: POP.

With young people now showing greater interest in their complexions than ever before, the teen skincare sector is flourishing, with brands like Bubble, BYOMA and Drunk Elephant gaining popularity both on TikTok and in shops – but it’s difficult to determine whether some products are genuinely benefiting young skin.

POP, however, is gentle yet effective, using barrier-strengthening ingredients rather than aggressive actives that may cause irritation. The pricing is excellent too, with nothing more then £10.

“Skincare used to feel stressful, but POP makes it fun and simple,” Lexi says. “I can trust it on my skin – and knowing it’s gentle for teens makes it a no-brainer for everyone in my life!” reports OK!.

We spoke with Lexi to discover more about the products, and her top beauty advice…

What is your current skincare routine?

I like to keep my skincare routine quick but consistent. I start with the POP Fresh Reset Face Wash in the morning to wake up my skin, then use the Good Glow Toner to add hydration and a bit of glow. I finish with the Dewy Defense Moisturiser SPF50, which I’m obsessed with it because it protects my skin without feeling heavy or leaving that white cast some SPFs do.

Have you always taken care of your skin?

I’ve always kept my skin clean and protected, but it’s hard to find a routine suitable for young skin that doesn’t cost a fortune or damage your skin barrier. I’ve definitely learnt now that you don’t need loads of steps, just gentle products that work for you.

Have you had any skin concerns or issues in the past, and if so, how have you dealt with them?

I’ve had times where my skin’s felt dry or sensitive, especially when I tried products that were too harsh for me. Now I stick to gentle and hydrating products that don’t strip my skin, like the POP Cleansing Balm for taking off make-up, which really helps keep my skin calm and comfy.

Why do you love the POP skincare range?

Because it’s made for young people. There are so many skincare products out there that are either too harsh or too expensive, and POP is the total opposite. It’s gentle, affordable and actually fun to use. The packaging makes me want to do my skincare every day, and my skin always feels hydrated and fresh afterwards.

What is your favourite product from the range?

It’s hard to choose, but I’d have to say the Dewy Defense Moisturiser SPF50. It gives me that glowy, dewy look without being greasy and it’s perfect for everyday wear. Plus, it has SPF, so it’s doing all the hard work for you.

Aside from using POP products, what is your top skincare tip?

Consistency! You don’t need a 10-step routine, just find what works and stick to it. And never forget SPF, even when it’s cloudy.

Have you picked up any beauty tips from your mum?

Definitely! Mum always says the best thing you can do is look after your skin early and drink loads of water. She’s also big on always taking your make-up off properly, no matter how tired you are.

Do you ever raid each other’s make-up bags or share other beauty products?

All the time! I borrow her glosses, and she’s pinched my moisturiser more than once. We have different styles, but we both love trying new products.

Do you like following viral beauty trends?

I love keeping up with what’s trending, especially the natural, glowy looks. It’s all about looking fresh and confident, which is totally my vibe.

What’s the weirdest trend you’ve seen recently?

There’s always something weird on TikTok! Probably people putting kitchen ingredients on their faces – fun to watch, but I’ll definitely stick to real skincare.
