The smart alarm clock has become a staple for many to beat the dreaded winter wake-up calls
Amazon shoppers have found a way to beat the dark mornings with help from a £26 alarm clock that ‘mimics a tropical sunrise’. A rival to the trendy Lumie devices, users say the budget take is ‘the best thing’ for winter.
The simple gadget mimics a natural sunrise, helping users wake up in the pitch dark winter mornings. Plus, it’ll gradually start to brighten 30 minutes before the set alarm time, avoiding any harsh wake-up calls that can make a Monday morning feel even more grim.
It can also be set before bed too, reducing from a bright light to a gentle red for those who struggle to fall asleep. The light will gently dim from 100% to 0%. In the past month alone 3,000 Amazon shoppers have bought the ‘game-changing’ device with many saying it’s ‘transformed their morning routines’.

The dark frosty mornings are likely the main reason this device has shot-up as a top seller but price is certainly a moving point too. As Amazon cuts 18% off it’s now available for £26.99 instead of £32.99.
“Absolutely love naturally waking up to an increasing light. What a difference”, claimed one user. While other reviews from Amazon shoppers featured a lot of comments saying that the device helped ‘boost the ambience’.
Speaking about the cost, one shopper said, “Good for the price. You can set two alarms, both with a snooze option. It has made it easier for me to wake up in the morning. My only critique would be that it is a bit plasticky.
“Good quality product, however, can be confusing to use. “The light is great. I’ve got it to sunrise in the morning, but I don’t dare touch the other settings in case it upsets it all,” said a fourth shopper who highlighted a small gripe with the product.
The clock also has seven natural sounds – similar to the Lumie rival – including piano, birds, and waves. “I pick bird song for days off and annoying ring tones for work days”, said one shopper who sets different early-rise noises depending on the day.
We recently wrote about the Lumie alarm clock as the ‘best unexpected present to receive’ and it too is one we’d recommend for peaceful alarm ring sounds. As I said in the piece: “For me, there is nothing worse than a loud obnoxious alarm tone to wake up to, and its sounds are another thing worth mentioning.
“The five natural sounds to choose from are peaceful, bird-song-like sounds – again, a feature that helps promote a natural wake-up as if your window was open on a bright summer’s morning”. As well as the Amazon Sunrise Alarm Clock and Lumie Sunrise Clock, another alternative to look at is the Philips £199.99 SmartSleep wake-up light which comes with a few more fancy functions – including guided breathing programmes to help relax – to justify the higher price.
