Smart doorbells with cameras have gained immense popularity in recent years, offering homeowners a convenient way to keep tabs on who’s at their doorstep remotely through their smartphones. These compact devices have been providing people across the country with an added sense of security, whether they’re out and about or investigating strange noises in the dead of night.

However, many prominent brands often lock users into subscription services after purchasing a video doorbell. This means that to unlock the device’s full potential, users are forced to pay recurring fees, leaving some feeling frustrated at the additional monthly expense on top of the initial purchase price.

Fortunately, a highly-praised subscription-free video doorbell is now available with a 36% discount on Amazon. This allows you to gain complete access to the comings and goings at your doorstep with a single payment and at a bargain price to boot.

The Tapo TD21 Battery Video Doorbell, normally priced at £69.99, can now be snapped up by Amazon shoppers for £44.99. As a subscription-free device, the Tapo Doorbell grants you access to all its features after a one-time payment.

This ‘reliable’ gadget boasts 2K clarity, providing a clear view of your doorstep regardless of the time of day or night. Hailed as ‘better than Ring’ by customers, the device also features a 160-degree diagonal field of view, offering a broad and crystal-clear image of what’s happening outside your door, reports the Daily Record.

The Tapo Video Doorbell boasts full-colour night vision for clear visibility during the dark hours and a six-month battery life, promising long-lasting security with fewer charges. Footage can be stored via a microSD card (up to 512GB) or on the Tapo Care cloud.

Ideal for those awaiting deliveries while away from home, Tapo’s Smart Doorbell comes with a high-quality microphone and speakers for two-way communication, allowing you to instruct where to leave your items. It also offers real-time notifications using AI detection that alerts your smartphone immediately. You can link these notifications to your Alexa or Google Assistant devices for alerts even without your phone nearby.

Another video doorbell on discount at Amazon is the eufy Video Doorbell. Usually priced at £69.99, a £10 savings voucher is currently available, bringing the price down to £59.99.

Meanwhile, Argos offers the Ring Battery Video Doorbell 2024 at their lowest price of £59.99. By applying the code RED10 at checkout, you can slash an additional 10 per cent off for a limited time, reducing the price to £55.19.

More than 4,000 people have decided to give the Tapo TD21 Battery Video Doorbell a shot over the past month, choosing it above popular subscription-based rivals. With a respectable 4.4-star rating on Amazon, many shoppers seem quite chuffed with their choice.

A pleased buyer stated: “I recently purchased this video doorbell, and I’m really impressed with its performance. The setup was quick and straightforward, the video quality is clear, and the motion detection works perfectly. It gives me peace of mind knowing I can monitor my doorstep anytime, even when I’m away. If you’re considering a reliable and affordable video doorbell, I highly recommend this one.”

Another consumer remarked: “Brilliant piece of kit. Bought three, one for each of my daughters and one for us. Adds a bit of security when not home as you get notification on the app. Clear picture and wide coverage easy to use and set up. Battery usage depends on what settings you use. Ideal if you don’t want to pay a subscription and don’t want images storing on cloud – just use an SD card. Half the price of other known brands would definitely recommend.”

Meanwhile, a third impressed five-star reviewer penned: “The picture quality is 100 per cent better than Ring, and I can capture data on a SD card, so no subscription. Win, win. The night vision is exceptional, the connection to wifi is more stable, and the overall cost (Inc SD card) was £5 more than a year’s subscription of Ring data capture.”

Not everyone is thrilled with the doorbell, though, as a disgruntled buyer expressed their discontent: “It’s missing half the people who approach my door and picks up vehicles even though it’s set up not to. I’ve had to stop being notified because it’s mostly vehicles driving by. Overall I am not that happy with the product. Apparently it has AI that filters the detections, but it is far from ‘intelligent’.”
