American living in the UK shares 5 things that are ‘better’ than back home

By staff6 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

An American woman who moved to England in 2022 with her husband has shared some of the things she thinks are ‘better’ in England compared to back home in the US

Any Brit who has travelled to the United States will no doubt have been excited by certain things they have that we don’t in the UK – whether that be food items like Ranch dressing, Fritos or Cornbread, or certain brands like Pottery Barn and Cheesecake Factory. But it turns out there are certain things the UK does “better” than the US, according to an American.

Brianna Morton, an American who moved to England with her husband Thomas in 2022, regularly shares videos online about the differences between US and UK culture. In a recent video shared with their 60,000 TikTok followers, Brianna shared “five things that the UK does better than the US”.

Chocolate

Brianna admitted that there’s “no contest” when it comes to which country does chocolate the best. She joked Hersheys “tastes like regret” in comparison with Cadburys. “UK chocolate has more milk content than most US chocolate, and I can definitely taste the difference,” Brianna explained.

Public transport

Although Brianna admitted the UK’s public transport system is “not perfect, by any means”, she said it is “more accessible” than in the majority of the US. Explaining why, she said: “Because in the US everything is so spread out, it’s almost mandatory to have a car, unless you’re in the big cities like New York City or something, you have options there, but for the rest of the US it’s necessary to have a car.”

Healthcare

Brianna went on to explain how healthcare is “so much better” in the UK, thanks to the NHS. She quipped: “You probably have to get a second mortgage or remortgage your house just because you’ve got a broken leg [in the US]. And don’t get me started on how much it costs to have a baby in the US.”

She added that because her husband was in the military, they didn’t have to pay to have their daughter, but added that “not everyone in America has that opportunity or that option”.

Travelling

Because of the UK’s location, Brianna said there are “so many more options” and it’s “so much more cheaper” to travel than in the US. Brianna has been to about 38 or 39 of the 50 states in America, and has a goal of seeing them all.

However, now she’s in the UK, she’d rather travel to different countries and experience different cultures. Brianna added: “I’ve been to about 30 countries so far, so it’s been a success being over here in the UK.”

History and architecture

Explaining why she loves the history and architecture in the UK, Brianna said: “There’s castles, there’s cathedrals, there’s cobblestones, oh I love it. There’s the medieval times and I think it’s hilarious because the buildings in America that are like 200 years old are so historic, but that’s a modern building here in the UK.”

Brianna added that the buildings in the UK, including where people live, have “so much character” and that she loves the “stone walls” in the UK, including “up in Scotland”.
