A man who moved from America to the UK has tried beans on toast for the first time and shared his honest verdict – but some British people were quick to highlight ‘mistakes’ he made
An American man living in the UK has had his first taste of beans on toast.
This classic British meal is loved by people across the country, but to most of those in the Statesm it’s not quite seen in the same way. Most Americans think this quick and easy meal doesn’t taste that nice, but K Jordy, who describes himself as a “mere Yank among Brits” was brave enough to give it a go.
The TikTok star moved from the US to London and has racked up millions of likes for his posts sharing funny observations he has made about British culture. He posted a video on the platform yesterday (March 27) to have his say on beans on toast.
In the clip he said: “They say it couldn’t been done. They say I wouldn’t survive but today? I’m making beans on toast.
“I’ll never forget my first time hearing about beans on toast. One of my friends goes ‘mate, you gotta try beans on toast.’
“I go ‘try beans on what?’ Basically tells me [to] get a can of beans, get a loaf of bread, toast the bread, put the beans on a bread, call it a day. British delicacy or the biggest food crime ever?”
K Jordy went on to put two slices of bread in a toaster and poured a tin of Heinz baked beans into a bowl before warming the beans up in a microwave. He then put his toasted bread on a plate and ‘smothered’ the slices with the beans on top.
He shared that he wanted to know “what the hype is.” The American expat then broke off pieces of bread with the beans using a fork and tasted his dish.
His final verdict: “It’s not bad.” K Jordy added: “It’s not as bad as people say. If I’m being completely honest, I don’t understand why it’s so popular.
“It’s not horrible, it’s not amazing. I don’t hate it but it’s just something about carb on carb that’s kind of thrown me off. I survived to tell the tale.“ He even gave the meal a 6.5/10 rating.
The TikTok star’s video has already garnered thousands of views, likes and more than 900 comments. However, several Brits in the comments weren’t impressed with how he made his beans on toast.
One user pointed out a ‘mistake’ he made: “You didn’t butter your bread and you didn’t add cheese.”
Another user also suggested doing this as they said: “Butter the toast and add some grated cheese on top.”
A third commented: “The way you have done this is a violation.” A fourth claimed: “You’ve done it wrong. Toast needs to be generously buttered and most importantly – you need to eat it with a knife and fork!”
